Description I did a short journey from St Pancras to Ebbsfleet and back to test the class 395 trains, built by Hitachi. And I think they do what they're supposed to do really well. The combination of high-speed and commuter trains is certainly an odd one, but it seems to work. That being said, I'm not sure if this is really a service that was necessary, or whether it was just introduced to placate regions along the line and make them believe that they're getting something out of it.

Here, a unit with the name "Ed Clancy", apparently some famous sports person, is standing in St Pancras. All of them are named after famous sport people, probably because they were bought in part for the Olympics.

Plus Eurostar is faster!

It (in my opinion) was a waste of money and very expensive considering what you are getting!

I think faster trains wouldn't help a lot here, since the trains stop so often. With the time for acceleration and deceleration, the trains wouldn't stay at higher speeds long enough to make a big difference.

But yeah, I do wonder about the economic case for these.
