Rant
I'm currently thinking about article 13, the famous "meme ban". Since it's kinda vague, and some people say that it might affect fanart.
(Just started some fanart here and consider dumping it hehehe..)
I've been feeding off some fandoms, but everything is diverse, the most common fanart I ever did was from Naruto, because I was so inspired by it (I was 11 years old and it was my first manga). I sometimes want to draw so much different game characters, movie characters and so forth to give my appreciation. I also want people to know some of the lesser known fandoms or characters, like Heavenly Sword that I did recently. I want to share and create a community in that essence. My most famous fanarts a while back was a WoW fanart and a League of Legends fanart if I remember correctly.
I have never traced, only trying to copy things as training and if I get too close to the original I will link what I used. But mostly I might just borrow a character, everything else (the pose, color choices..) is just entirely from my mind. And as I've been getting older I feel less drawn to fanart. I think that now it's not the main focus of my page, you're not really here for a certain fandom I hope hehe. But as I've seen lately is that I don't need to make fanart to keep going on and getting forward to a audience. I can do other art that I enjoy.
If anything legal went through I would not be so scared if this whole gallery went up in flames because of copyright, I've lost worse, I would be 1% more depressed but I think I will create better stuff in the future, if I can learn to improve that is hehe.. (ugh iterative drawing).. But the thing is that I think I will do less fanart, maybe none if I don't get the permission - sort of.
Some people say that the text is so vague and that people can abuse it somehow. If I were a professional I would be more worried about this and actually read into it more. Also I don't share all my art, I keep stuff safe, like the story I am doing on the side (I don't plan to show everything of it, just what's safe), because I know that if it's good - people will want to use it, abuse it and do wierd stuff with it - and I can't throw away that amount of work away by taking that chance (I mean sharing stuff is overrated (has severe depression)) - and just to build a community! Also I build a following in other ways... trying to do it in other ways that is haha.
Either way, does the "meme ban" matter? meh.. not that much to me. I look at both sides, and I see some sides winning and some sides losing. It's up to the creator, but freedom of speech and advances in technology/science? hm...
I don't got time for all that, but who does? who..? And it's ridiculous to think I have to make a conclusion on the matter. Especially as of now haha. I give that choice to the leaders, the pros, let's hope they are willing to learn both sides and that they don't choose apathy.
.. Ironic thoughts huh?
