It's Southern slang.
"The Vapours" were believed to be a real illness diagnosed to women (primarily). Basically, the belief that women were fragile, helpless creatures lead to this idea of "female hysteria" which included things like fainting spells, depression, mood swings, etc. all of which was referred to as "The Vapours".
