I can't stand sparkledogs... there are too many multi-colored mary sue wolves/dogs out there, and it's somewhat annoying. In my opinion, they are nothing but ugly. Natural colors are there for a reason. You will NEVER see a purple wolf in the wild, and they are anything but unique...Here we see Princessfairyqueengoddessundyingfanglytulipdemonfireblazebloodbloodblood confronting Alkoi who is more or less, normal-looking. I have actually seen photos of wolves that look like him.
I've noticed trends with these characters. They're almost always emo, no matter how brightly colored or peppy they may seem, their parents always die or their real parents are gods and they were simply put int the care of unfortunate foster parents. Almost every one I've seen is single... no family... no life, really. They're always the chosen one of something... anything! It doesn't matter as long as it saves the world from something. I've seen too many with curses and demons possessing them, etc.
This is mostly for my personal giggles, so please, no hate comments... I've only pointed out the trends that I notice.

I like weird animal colors, but only if it's within reason. It needs a good grasp on color theory for me. I hate Mary-Sues with a passion, and I hate god-moding even more. Despite my love for weird colors, I still love their natural pallet just as much.

But I like that tail design. I wouldn't want to use it though, because I'd want to put it in my comic, and multi-tailed creatures there usually have spinal problems. That'd be no fun. Baaaaaaw I can't steal from you.

Yeah, sparklewolfs have no creativity, yet people still make them. Still give them ultra emo pasts and personalitys. The wolves in my comic (it's more based on humans though) are naturally colored, have correct/decent anatomy and decent, thought out past. Same with the human/human-like characters. Although, I do have various breeds of demons in it XD

Why is it always DEMONS? If they're gonna be possessed, can't they at least get creative about it and be possessed by, I dunno, a ghost or a magical entity or something? I feel sorry for my Day Walker. He's a regular wolf with bad eyesight and he had to pall around with a shitload of these and he knew more about being a wolf than any of them, who ate FRUIT all day, fought each other over the stupidest shit and ran off to be emo when they are a pack and thus need to work together, and OH YEAH turned into ANTHRO FORMS for super sexy kimono dress up time

That's part of the reason I try to avoid wolf RPs of any type that you can predict will go into emo faggotry.

Even if you have a legit story-line sorta going along, there's always that one role-player that busts in with their SUPARSPESHULSPARKLEDESUDOG to drive the story to follow them on their adventures into self-pity and emo-shiz. It seriously takes any fun out of role-playing with normal wolf characters. :C

I'll say. This one person pulled the ENTIRE roleplay in their direction when they went SUPEREMODEMON and the only way to kill the demon was to smash this stone then it was to kill her and "OMGNOWELUVUWEDUNWANNAKILLU" and "OMGBUTUGOTTA" (the entire time my character is so not caring and wanting to kill her to save the rest of the pack AS HE SHOULD) and so they killed her/the demon then BRAWT HUR BAK 2 LIEF but SOMEFUCKINGHOW she was STILL demon possessed.
Oh, and she blinded my already vision impaired regular wolf in one eye and when he was UNDERSTANDABLY not happy about it and suspicious of her, she did not apologize AT ALL and instead was all "OMG IT WASNT MY FAWLT WHY DONT U UNDERSTAYUND THAT?!?/2/?!@! *emo sob cry cry*" and got everyone else on her side going "OMG SHE JUST DIED SHES BEEN THRU A LAWT DUNT B SO INSENSITUV U JERK GAWD"

They seem to represent the desired traits of the artists, along
with the "personality" that they wish to broadcast to their fans.
In reality, these "dogs" are a matrix of self-loathing and lame

Exactly! Usually, the people who come up with these abominations are unhappy with the way they are. I often see sparkledogs idolizing ADD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and other things when really, they aren't fun or preppy or cute at all. Some people really struggle with these things and they make a big joke out of it. It's disgraceful, really.
I've noticed that with a lot of mary sues, too... and the sad thing is, sometimes those on the other end just needed a "hero" in their lives, and a sparkledog or sue in general is something for them to look up to. Yes, I hope it is something for those people to grow out of.
I used to love wolves with everything in me, but since the fandom has come along, that love has severely dispersed. Sparkles are the fantasy of a perfect, care-free, anything goes world... it makes me sad to see how downhill art has gone since its hayday. Anime and mary sues... Hopefully the art world will grow out of it, too... not just the individual people, hm?

I draw fantasy characters in a D&D type world,
and it annoys me that humanoid species in the
story will be accused of being 'furry' or 'scaly'...
It seems certain bad elements in art fandoms
have ruined the fun for legitimate artists...

I agree... I have a dog/reptilian character who becomes human halfway through his story. He's been called a wolf, werewolf, furry, etc. just because of his looks. Really, the transformation is just the symbolism of his redemption, and it only happens once. Someone actually tried to argue with me that he was a werewolf. XD It's plain and simple on paper, so why should it be so hard?
It makes me embarrassed to draw cats or wolves or anything that I, myself like because so many other people "luvz" it and screw it up before anyone else is allowed to show their creative works in their own way...

Dude, I know what you are saying. When a person with a real condition sees
these children play-acting for attention, it must really grind the gears.
I think the best way to tackle the situation is to keep drawing your art,
and to heck with those who do not like it. As long as you know the reasons
behind a character are legit and good, then you can do no wrong...
As for the freakish critics and fanboys? Tune them out!

But you're right. I don't mind a couple of unnatural markings (meaning one or two), but the thousand symbols and colors and flashy sprinkles are just too much. I can appreciate a character with a couple of oddly colored marks (that is, if the character itself is well-created), but not a fluffy rainbow.
I'm not sure I understand the fascination with the leg warmers...

This was only my opinion. Not meant to hurt anyone else. I like mildly fluffy dogs, and maybe even a couple of unrealistic markings if they're necessary for the "race" or origin of the creature, but overdoing it is just killjoy, no?
