So, I've mentioned before that this series started from a question my brother asked, "What would Final Fantasy look like as a Disney movie?". The top row of doodles there is exactly what I drew in response (you'll notice I didn't draw the whole cast at the time, because I didn't realize I was going to 
But seeing them is strangely surreal - my artistic approach has changed so much from when those original concepts were done, that it feels like I've been collaborating with my past self. Like, realizing that Cloud was done after Franchise Remix 13, and Sephiroth was done after Remix 50, and yet there they both are looking like they were completed a day apart and both based on sketches done before Franchise Remix even started.
Not to ramble, but I just want to congratulate my past self for being so ahead of myself - I'd change a lot about the other art I was doing at the time, but golly - even the positioning of these guys carried through to the final product. I don't know, it's like I predicted my art-future or something - it's crazy!

Don't say sorry, you did awesome job with this (says person who knows nothing about 3d modeling). And put a lot of throughs into this work.
Just never been fan of Disney style no matter if traditional or digital. And seeing this made me internally conflicted and disturbed.

What made you go from straight down arms to arms behind back?

Good observation. Firstly to give his silhouette more personality and secondly to differentiate him from Cloud. You'll notice that Tifa also original had her arms down, and of the three, Cloud's more quiet demeanor seemed most fitting for relaxed arms.
