The trees turning dramatic shades of fiery orange & crimson and fallen leaves covering the ground made for a beautiful backdrop for Mercury Stables. Damian had heard they were auctioning off another set of horses and when he told Petra about this she immediately wanted to visit. She absolutely adored the horses they had brought home from there before and since she was looking for a new eventer herself this was the perfect excuse to travel all the way to Canada.
Damian had brought Titanic along for the clinic, hoping they could help him smooth out some imperfections. Petra joined him when he brought Titanic to his new temporary stable and brushed him for a little bit so he could get accustomed to this place. This also gave Petra the time to check out some of the horses that would be up for auction. She had already picked out a few she was interested in, but it was a lot harder to not choose them all when they were all standing right there looking at her expectantly with those cute faces.
Petra tried three other horses, but she didn’t really have a connection with any of them. That was until she got on Whipped. The cremello fewspot seemed like quite the charmer from the moment she first laid eyes on him, and when she walked up to him the first thing he tried to do was play with the zipper of her jacket. When she actually got on the stallion he was pretty sweet though, waiting for her to get settled before trying to walk off. The first thing Petra noticed was that he had some seriously smooth gaits and even though his trot would still take a little bit of work he was already pretty well balanced without her doing much.
When Petra felt Whipped was warmed up enough she tried some ground poles and popped over a few jumps, which the stallion cleared easily. Clearly he was not at all impressed by how small the obstacles were and was not taking them seriously. When the height was increased a bit more it appeared he was actually starting to enjoy himself. It might turn out to be a bit harder to keep a horse like this from getting bored with the standard work than Petra would like to think.

Meanwhile Damian is preparing for the clinic, with Titanic almost dozing off simply from getting brushed. When Damian carefully puts the saddle on the stallion’s back he appears to stir and wake up a bit, but when he goes to tighten the cinch Damian still manages to scare him which results in Titanic stomping on his foot. Damian yelps and when Titanic removes his hoof he quickly scurries back. Luckily his foot doesn’t hurt too bad and he quickly finishes tacking up and heads to the arena.
During the warmup however Damian finds out that his foot is bothering him more than he would like to admit. He has a hard time balancing over the jumps and Titanic keeps swishing his tail, clearly irritated. They still try to make the most of it, even though Damian still leaves disappointed by his subpar riding today. When they return to the stables he quickly pulls the tack off of the stallion and gives him some treats and hay to munch on before sitting down to check on his foot.

Soo, this is the best picture I managed to get. I swear it looks better when you're physically looking at it :')
That said, I really love this drawing! For once I managed to kind of stick to a coherent colour palette and I'm pretty proud of the shading. But then again, this must have taken close to 50 hours of me slowly adding details and then waiting for the watercolour to dry.
