I use a square charcoal brush that can be found in Frenden's dry media brush set for Manga Studio--  frenden.myshopify.com/products… Right here, if you happen to have the program.

If you don't I'm sure you could achieve a similar effect with another brush that just had some good texture on it. I tried to work with it mostly in horizontal strokes and played around with some gradient overlays. The stuff that looks like banding is just a rainbow gradient on a very tight repeat.
