During Draka's reign, Nudken was sent by the Skeksis to steal eggs from his fellow needlebugs to be turned into slaves. One night, he was about to steal the egg Celly was going to hatch from when Marina Robbins saw Nudken about to take it. Cellonidas heard Nudken trying to strangle Marina to death and intervenes. Nudken manages to dodge the attack and hit Cellonidas in the head with a broken chair leg, nearly killing him. Marina retaliates by stabbing Nudken in the eye with a Cosmic Crystal shard before fleeing with her limp husband and her egg. Miraculously, Nudken survived, though badly disfigured by the crystal shard; the top right portion of himself turned pale-purple and crystalline. Nudken vowed to exact his revenge. Adopting a darkblue cloak to cover his disfigurement, he renamed himself Nucleos.
