Description -[]-[]-----------------------------------------------------------------
Another shot from that sunset. This photo was taken with a Cokin Blue/Yellow polarizer (thus the "strange" colors in this pic) and an GND8 held with my hands in front of the filter (I still can't mount anything over the blu-yellow pola since I need to modify it so that I can turn it like any other polarizer). I tweaked the camera settings to "low contrast" to get as much light transition possible and I set the saturation to "enhanced" to pump the colors. In post-production I selectively tweaked the contrasts in the sky, preserving the most details in the clouds as possible. This is one of my first tries in contra-light without bracketing or doing HDR things, and I'm enough satisfied!

I've been thinking about one of those filters...the colors here are great. Have you used it on other images and if so, have you liked the results?

pretty composition!

Wonderful work mate, really well exposed in tricky conditions, but the texture in the sand really makes your effort worth it.
Great shot

Thanks a lot my friend! I'm triyng to concentrate more on the camera settings while taking the shot. I think it really changes everything like Ken Rockwell says. Something that pisses me off though is the fact that Lightroom resets the tone response curve of RAW photos to a standard one trashing the camera settings. The only way I have to keep the settings is to work with Nikon Capture. Did you experience something like that in Aperture?

To be honest I'm really not sure...I've never checked. Sorry :-/

Grazie Giorgio!

Magical...))) Really great capture: the shining grains of sand and the colour of the sky fit each other perfectly.)

ZephonSoul In reply to erebus-odora [2007-09-24 06:28:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! Actually I noticed that the "shiny" effect on the sand would have disappeared using higher contrasts: I really suggest to give "low contrast" options on the camera a chance when you face such harsh light conditions! It was a discovery for me, and I'll be diggin into it...
