Nighttime.

There was a warm something beside me.

I stirred sleepily and opened my bleary eyes, only to be met by a shock of white in the darkness of my room.

White, white, white.

I blinked.

Near.

I was probably too sleepy to think, because if had I been in my right mind, I would have pushed the albino boy out of my bed as violently as possible. But the thought didn't cross my mind at the time. I didn't even wonder what he was doing there. All that hit me was the fact that I had never seen him asleep before.

I watched for a while, looking at the figure curled up next to me, sharing my blanket; watched as the cotton of his pajama top rose and fell with each deep, steady breath... Saw those closed eyes, fringed with delicate eyelashes that lay like fans on the snow white cheeks that were darkened only by the lack of light.

Near looked so vulnerable this way; so fragile.

So human.

Strangely enough, he was beautiful.

And I was the only one who was there to witness it that one night.

I couldn't tear my eyes away from him. For some strange reason I couldn't fathom, I wanted the image to be burned into my mind. I didn't want it to end, just like everything else inevitably did.

After a long while, drowsiness made itself known. One last coherent thought drifted through my mind and made it past my lips.

"Tell me I'm not just dreaming again."

My eyelids slowly slid shut, and I might have already been asleep when I heard a faint voice beside me say,

"You're not."

Hahaha, I had to let that out.

Anyway, this drawing was from waaay back. Original lineart (pencil & paper) belongs to my fwend who still doesn't have a dA account: Hime-chan!! I had her full permission to use it.

I drew over it with pen, added in the pillows & Mello's right eye and his nose. Also a tad of detail in the hair.

Coloring, effects (PSE 8) and the above drabble were also done by me.

The characters, however, do not belong to neither me nor Hime-chan. :[

Anywayyyyy. I also wanted this to be a kind of apology to all those waiting for the continuation of my DN iPod series. I will be submitting more of those soon, hang on!
