Description In the early days of railroading, signals were red balls attached to a string held on a pole. When the ball was at the top of the pole, it meant to proceed, nicknamed "highball". Taken during the LALS 2008 Fall Meet.

Thanks, there's probably only a handful of these still around today I'm sure...they came from an era when even semaphores didn't really exist.
