I also wrote a little scene to go with it, and oppaye said I should post it here too. It won't make much sense if you haven't read the comic, so if you're curious, go read it! XD

SCENE

Sam sat huddled on one end of Daredevil's cage, watching as his comrade paced restlessly. Back and forth, back and forth Daredevil prowled, curled in on himself as he walked off the adrenaline and feral instinct that doubtless raged through his body. He was in a bad way, mentally and emotionally more than physically. Fighting did that to him, agitated him even more than his usual state allowed. Sam knew enough than to disturb the other when he was like this.

On the other hand...

It was one of those rare days, when Daredevil's manager had allowed them to be together in one cage. It wasn't totally unusual for this to happen, especially after an especially brutal fight. And this had been. It had been a very brutal fight.

The taller, thicker skeleton glanced out to the area surrounding their cage, blinking in sympathy. There, Daredevil's opponent sat slouched against the outside of the bars, bleeding and banged up, barely alive. Daredevil had come out on top in the fight, unsurprisingly, but his opponent had sustained some pretty horrendous injuries.

Sam felt his soul ache for the other creature, whose breathing was labored and expression one of silent agony. It spoke to Sam's softer soul, calling him to act; to help. They weren't that far from each other. The opponent was leaning against the side closest to him, and all Sam would have to do is lean out...reach out through the bars to heal him.
Sam cast a quick glance in Daredevil's direction. The small skeleton was still prowling, completely lost in his own little world as he struggled to calm down. Sam swallowed, hoping he wasn't doing the wrong thing, then shifted himself so he was even closer to the injured opponent.

"Hey," he whispered. When he received no immediate response he clicked his teeth and rapped his knuckles ever so softly against the metal rungs. He saw the other stir. "Hey, over here."

The opponent looked up, expression dull and wincing. One eye was swollen shut, a deep scratch right over the eyelid. Sam winced.

"I...I-I want to heal you. Will you let me?"

The opponent stared at him for a long, silent moment, obviously untrusting, but Sam couldn't blame him. In the world they lived in, trust was rare and far between. Then, so slowly Sam barely saw it, the opponent nodded weakly. Sam sighed in relief.

"Okay. I'm just going to...reach out and touch you, okay?"

Again the opponent nodded.

Sam held back a whine at his own idiocy, sent a last glance in Daredevil's direction, and then pressed himself against the cage. His arm stretched across the distance, shaking slightly in his nervousness, but he was determined to help the other. He couldn't let even an enemy suffer.

His fingers had just barely grazed the other's shoulder, when a loud, vengeful shout rang out from behind Sam. It made his metaphorical blood freeze.

"What are you doing?!"

Sam's first instinct was to pull away. Daredevil sounded angry, very angry. But he couldn't stop now. This opponent might bleed out otherwise. So Sam finished closing the distance, his hand landing on the opponent's shoulder.

"Stop!"

Daredevil sounded closer now, but Sam, for once, ignored him. he closed his eyes and began channeling healing magic to their injured foe.

"I said STOP!"

Sam turned just in time to receive the full weight of his comrade slamming into his waist. The two hit the bottom on the cage with a clang, the force knocking the wind from them and causing the whole cage to rattle under their movements. They rolled bit, from the momentum, before sliding to a painful halt.

Daredevil snarled as he felt something within his chest crackle, the impact having caused a few of his already aching ribs to reverberate with pain. With luck, they wouldn't be broken, just sprained.

Sam grunted, slowly sitting himself up. He was a little sore, there might even be a bruise or two, but otherwise he was fine. Anger bubbled within him, of a righteous kind, and he turned over to treat the other monster to a few sharp words, but they died on his metaphorical tongue.

Daredevil looked paler than normal, and his face was pinched, as if in pain. The sight made Sam's soul sink in his chest.

"Daredevil?!" He shuffled forward, planning to help, but the smaller monster swatted his hand away angrily. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?"

"Shut up!"

Daredevil slowly pulled himself to his feet, still cradling his ribs. He swore under his breath, anger seething as he turned heated sockets to Sam. Daredevil growled, one arm curled tighter around his bruised ribs as his free hand shot out and grabbed a forceful hold of Sam's arm. He held the bone tightly, his anger getting the better of him as he glared up at the larger monster.

"What were you thinking?!" he hissed out aggressively. "Are you trying to get us killed?!" Sam merely whimpered, angering the other further. He gave Sam's arm a rough shake. "Well, are you?!"

"N-No, I was j-just-"

"That match was a fight to the death! Or until the opponent can't get up again! If you heal him, the match will start all over again!"

Sam winced, eyes scrunching closed at the slight sting of Daredevil's clawed fingertips pricking into his humerus as his comrade's hold tightened further. "B-But I can't just let him die-" he stuttered, trying to appear as submissive and non-threatening as possible, even as he argued his case. "Just b-because we live in a cruel existence doesn't mean we have to be c-cruel ourselves!"

Daredevil shook Sam harder, practically screaming. "You numbskull! You don't fickin' heal the ENEMIES!! The heck were you thinking?!?"

Sam just shook his head, overwhelmed as he cast his gaze aside, unable to look Daredevil in the eyes. Weakly, he murmured, "I-I just w-wanted to help...."

Daredevil looked the other over, how he was shaking in the face of Daredevil's own rage. Sam seemed unharmed, and for that the rougher skeleton was grateful. He would have been even more furious had Sam been hurt, had the injured opponent lashed out unexpectedly. As things were, there was really no harm done, other than Daredevil's own ribs. But he'd had far worse. He would heal.

"Well," Daredevil grumbled, and after a moment longer he released Sam harshly, almost causing the other skeleton to stumble. "If you wanna help, help the right side. This life doesn't allow things like mercy. You need to get that through your thick skull. You hear me?!"

Sam flinched, rubbing his sore arm, but then he nodded. Daredevil could be exceedingly protective, even with things Sam wasn't expecting him to be. The smaller showed his emotions through outbursts and anger, and though Sam knew the other was good at his core, he wasn't someone Sam wanted to mess with, or gain the wrath of.

Sam nodded, reminding himself to be more careful in the future. "I hear you. Now..." He hesitated, then said, "Will you at least let me heal you?"

It had become a familiar question over their course of knowing each other. It was always a fight, to get Daredevil to give in. But Sam wasn't about to let the other suffer a pair of possibly broken ribs. If he couldn't help their opponent, well, at least her could help his friend.

After a long moment, wherein Sam nearly gave up his offer, Daredevil rolled his eyes and shifted a little closer.

"Fine. Whatever. Just hurry up and get it done."

"Okay."

"And don't do something stupid like that ever again, got it?!"

"...Okay."
