Description A concept piece for my co-op portfolio at college. Has taken waaaay longer to complete than I wanted it too, but I'm still very slow when it comes to digital paint.

One of the best power armor designs i have seen in a long time. Not highly bulky, but at the same time, not a piece the exists more to show off the operators figure than to protect. Also complicated enough to look high tech, without falling into technology porn territory. All in all, a good balance. Your accolades are well deserved, good sir.

Why thank you. I wanted to create something that allowed a good balance between mobility and protection, while still being practical yet have a sense of style.

Hi! Great piece of work. I was wondering.... I'm a digital sculptor and i've been looking to do some hardsurface pieces to practice some new techniques. Was wondering if you wouldn't mind if i used this concept. I'd credit you of course and link back to your work/website.

I did play the Doom BFG edition while I was doing this, so I guess some of that got channelled in. They had really cool helmets.

This... is perfect for the stuff I wanted for the setting I had in mind... or at least one of the closest possibilities out of a bunch of great concepts. Very well done, sir. You have my favorite.

Zerahoc In reply to Thanatosstorm [2013-03-18 06:20:35 +0000 UTC]

why thank you, it is most appreciated. It was a fun suit to design, to try and get something that has a unique look about it.

Thanatosstorm In reply to Zerahoc [2013-03-18 07:23:18 +0000 UTC]

You succeeded. I'm not so much concerned about the amount of armor that's on it, since the setting that I am deriving already presupposes that personal combat weapons have evolved from slugthrowers to personal directed-energy weapons (fancy name for lasers), and Gauss weapons. With that sort of firepower, this would probably fall into my classification as Security or Marshal armor... designed to soak up a little bit of damage, but not a whole lot. But it isn't as heavy or bulky as Vanguard or Sentinel armor, thus it doesn't impair mobility like the heavier classes do. Even those heavier armor suits don't stop Gauss weapons fully... more like redirect the round away from any vital organs and keep the soldier in the fight with stimpacks, adrenaline and serotonin.

Zerahoc In reply to Thanatosstorm [2013-03-18 23:55:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, weapon advances tend to put armour to shame. Most of the suits I design for this story/world aim for modularity, allowing the armour plates to be removed as needed. Since firearms are still projectile-based, plating has its uses. Not to mention in hand-to-hand combat with other powersuits, cyborgs, and robots.

Thanatosstorm In reply to Zerahoc [2013-03-19 03:22:18 +0000 UTC]

Definitely along similar thought processes here. Though I will say that in certain cases (primarily armored vehicles) armor does have its uses.

In truth, before firearms, you could say that armor and bladed weaponry often ran in a tight race between one another.

Some folks might question whether body armor is even necessary, but I know for a fact that it's saved thousands of lives overseas, so much so that it's well worth the weight (even if you do have to sweat like a pig to wear it).

Zerahoc In reply to Thanatosstorm [2013-03-19 04:04:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and in most weaponry-based situations, a little armour is better than nothing.
