Description Hee. Horse Feather (the name I actually use now, not Zeralia... confused yet?) in centaur form. Upper half is loosely based off of myself. Horse half is bay roan. Sketched by Wacom tablet in Photoshop and I spent most of this afternoon/evening shading it. I cheated an used a texture for the roan body because my shading attempts looked really...flat otherwise.

Don't mind the background. I was so tired by the end I just quickly put something together.

Also done in a more cartoony/anime style, because that's my newest challenge.

Don't they sell that shirt at Old Navy??? I think I saw one there and was gonna buy it but either: wrong color, or wrong size... Awesome picture too!

Very cool. Except you don't have that wisked grin IRL. Hehe.

very nice job, I like the texture of her equine body, but her tail seems a little short, or maybe that's just because it isn't hanging flat

Her tail is a little off, but I was aiming to have it styled along with her hair on her head. Might be off perspective too. XD

Thanks!

you're welcome, and I think it is just the perspective, because it works like that if you think of how it would be flat down

Yum. And that's all I have to say about that.

...

Okay, it really is quite an enjoyable picture, but in reflection, I do actually have some real comments and critiques on it worth mentioning.

The right hindquarters (the side toward the camera) looks excessively large at the knee (the round part that's farthest forward). You might wanna compare against some good reference photos to see how the hindquarters are structured in real horses; they tend to be smoother than that, especially when the leg is back like you've drawn it here.

I'd say the legs are too short overall, but that's a personal preference, so you don't have to make 'em longer if you don't want to

I think the only other complaint I have is that the eyes look very, well, alien. Scary. Big, buggy, green, scary alien eyes. That color can be used with anime-styled characters, but it's not usually drawn the way you drew her here.

When I was first starting out drawing anime, I saved various bits and pieces of stuff that I saw on TV and on the 'Net, and one in particular I considered the "gold standard" of anime-styled eyes. The show Yu-Gi-Oh wasn't the most spectacular show in the universe, and the character Serenity didn't show up much, but there was a single shot of her eye, close-up , and I used that pretty heavily as a reference for anime eyes. It's impressively well-done, I think. If you're looking to do anime-styled eyes well, take a good close look at how that was done; you can learn a lot from it!

But even without those changes, this is still worth a +fav, though. Hope my comments helped!

Wow, thank you for the insight! And the links to the stock references! I've been meaning to gather some good horse-related refs seeing as searching randomly on the net often comes up with...well, nothing too great. XD The photo ref I used for this one wasn't entirely clear. I do see what you mean about the legs though - the legs are still a tough spot for me when it comes to drawing horses (and most quadruped animals). But practice makes perfect, right?

Hahaha! Yeah, her eyes are kind of freakish and probably not what I'm going to use in future drawings. Mainly goofing around. I like that eye example you linked too. I don't actually watch much Anime. In fact, the only recent one I've actually watched (and own) in detail is Twelve Kingdoms. I'll probably go and screen cap some parts later and see if I can't get some good refs for eyes should I continue playing around in the anime/cartoony style of drawing. XD

Thanks for the +fav and your comment did indeed help! I love to get advice that helps point out some weak areas. Only way I can know what I'm doing wrong! XD
