Leah's POV:

" Why do you want me to take off my clothes?" Leah asked Sera with some hesitation since she didn't know all that much about this woman she had started to like her, but she had been tricked before by first impressions.

"Don't make that face I don't want to do anything weird. Okay, let's sit down and speak about the basics. What do you know about your essence abilities? Sera asked her.

"In all honestly not much, I have tried to figure out more about them, but it's like there is an agreement between everyone to not say much. The most I know is that essence is an energy that is everywhere and that essence users can use it, that's about it. I was able to use it in the past for some really minor stuff but not much than that" She told Sera most of what she knew which wasn't all that much different from what almost everyone knew already.

"Well, you seem to have the gist of it at least. The last 500 years of fearmongering towards essence users has not been great for anyone wanting to practice the essentialist arts. Essence abilities are something that is needed so that our society can run, but people talk about essentialists as if they were criminals from the moment they are born. essence is just a tool if you use it well, but it seems due to stupid decisions from people in the past Essentialists are shunned from most families". Leah heard everything that Sera said and felt like there was something of a story with it, but didn't really ask anything about it since she really wanted to learn how to use her skills.

"As you have seen in your efforts of trying to learn to use your essence abilities you can see how tight the control of information really is. Learning to use essence abilities is not that hard if you have someone to guide you through the initial stages of it. That's why they have this 3-day system in almost every prison of the Alizthea system. You probably were not able to learn anything in the detention center or anywhere else because they make you sign a contract when you leave prison if you are found to be teaching essentialist arts without a proper certification. Well let's say that the RCAE will punish you extensively so keep that in mind"

"Well, that makes sense. When I tried asking around the detention center even some of the most loose lips that had been incarcerated before would shut up. When I was in my day-to-day life I tried to get a mentorship with some essentialist in the streets, but they kept shooing me off just telling me to go to one of the institutes." Leah said while scratching her head and trying to connect all the dots together of her past experiences.

"Well, those institutes are just another way to limit who gets to learn how to use essence abilities. There are fancy applications for some of the essential arts, but the RCAE wants to keep tight control on how many people actually know about them. Mostly you are paying those fancy schools for the permission to teach you not so much for the classes. For the low-income institute, most of what they will teach you are the basics that you can use to do some basic grunt work, well-paid grunt work don't get me wrong, but physical labor nonetheless. What I am going to teach you is a basic molding technique. This is just a fancy way of saying how to move essence inside your body which is the first step in essence utilization"

This was the first time after all her inquiries that Leah learned about a molding technique. She was starting to get excited for the first time in a while which was welcomed. In addition, if she learned how to use essence then that would mean she would not need to worry about Pete and his goons anymore when she got out. Then Sera continued.

"There are two main branches of essence abilities: external and internal. Internal I am not going to go that deep into it since it's rare for anyone of the beastoid nation to be a user of it. Basically, you use essence to alter external phenomena. Most people of the beastoid race are internal users where we can use essence to become stronger, faster, increase our balance, and other physical characteristics. I asked you to take off your shirt because it is easier to teach if I put my hands directly on your back. You can keep your underwear on by the way. Now let's get started since we don't have much time for you to train before work duty which will come in 2 days"

Leah trusted what Sera was saying for now and took off her shirt, still with some hesitation. Three months in the detention center had not been nearly enough to erase all the self-defense habits that she had been using for years. Since being arrested she stopped using the bandages to hide her chest and hips but it was still something that Leah would like to hide if possible.

"I am going to put my hands on your shoulder. Then you are going to feel something warm spreading from your back all around your body. You are going to pace your breathing in the same sequence as me. That is the most important aspect of this initial phase, got it?"

Leah nodded and proceeded to sit with my legs crossed. As Sera had said she placed her hands on her shoulders and a few seconds later she started to feel a warming sensation inside of her. Different from the time when she had a fever and more similar to when she was working briefly in a hot bakery to earn some money. Leah followed the breathing pattern that Sera instructed her and could feel the warmth increasing. Any cold that she had been feeling a couple of minutes before was gone. For the first time in her life, she felt like she was using essence like one of the people in the stories that her mother used the read her in the past.
