Extra Scene for: 12. Sera's Sacrifice - Warden

Sera's POV:

During the next couple of weeks, Sera found herself arriving at the kitchen earlier than before so as to not commit the same mistake of getting out too late and running the risk of getting mugged once more.

As Clara had recommended she stopped going to the kitchen to just work or learn their cooking techniques and started interacting with the rest of the staff. For example, she learned that Rick, who calls himself the main chef, has a daughter around her age and worries immensely about her. This is one of the reasons why she was worried about Sera a few weeks ago and sent Clara to walk her home. Sera would be eternally grateful for that since he probably saved her life by sending Clara that night.

She also started noticing that Clara was a pretty big regular at the street kitchen both as a customer and as an extra hand to help move stuff around. Because Sera was usually in the back of the kitchen almost all the time she had only seen her in passing before. The two of them had developed a fast friendship which seemed strange to Sera since even though she had a lot of colleagues at school she could not say that she was particularly close to any of them. The Ertuit Institute was a place where the future leaders of Kenosha were educated and most saw only the advantages and disadvantages of talking with someone, plus the emphasis on competition about who got the better grades was something that allowed little time to develop friendships.

Clara was such a contrast to all of that, she could see that the girl did not care about what she could gain from Sera, except of course the random desert that she brought from the upper stratum. Sera was so used to the prim and respectful conversations that she had at school that when Clara threw her a curveball in their conversations it usually tended with her feeling embarrassed or flushing red like an apple.

"Her Sera, you done with your shift?" Clara asked from the back of the storage area.

"Yes, about to be done. Do you have anything in mind?

"Yes, there's a place that I want to show you come on"

"Rick I finished here. Anything else to do?"

"Nope you are good, now go and enjoy the sun, but thanks for everything Sera you are a great help, and your recipes are getting better. Anyways see you in a couple of days"

With that, Sera picked up her things and accompanied Clara. She tended to take Sera to different places to explore in the lower stratum and followed Clara along.
