Description EDIT: Changed some shading, reduced the heaviness of the lineart around the skin. I also lightened the background a bit.

Because asked.

Colored version of my lineart, Dance, Sode no Shirayuki. [link]
I attempted to translate the flow of movement from the original piece into color. Let me know what you think!

Thank you!

You can really see in this pic where I was trying to blend the two styles together, anime and realistic.

Overall, I have to say I like this piece... aside from the hair or perhaps the shine on the hair. The rest of the shading and highlights are done very well and you've definately captured her motion when she does those moves. The ice framing her and used for the background there fit perfectly to her style, more elegant and beautiful while also fragile.

Thank you for the thought provoking critique!
I can see where you're coming from with the hair shine and I can agree. I'll try blending it out so it's not so overwhelming.

I'm happy that I conveyed motion into this piece, that was a major concern as well as my main focus when I started coloring this one. I'm glad that you approve!

I'm not quite done tinkering with this one. Thank you for taking the time to critique this work, I appreciate your constructive criticism - I really do!

You're welcome
Yeah, softening and blending that would look a lot better and be so overwhelming and stick out so much.

Definately caught it from her turning with that slight diagonal lean, the stretch of the kimono, and the swirling ribbon wrapped around her.

I'll have to take a look once you've gotten it all worked out then

Great! The hair shine there is definately much more improved. It flows a lot better along the natural curves there and is much softer and no longer overwhelming. Hmm, did you also add in more hair texture there? If you did, it certainly adds more detail and depth, her hair looks more like hair now.

It looks like you also blended in the lineart more too, which is nice and doesn't stand out as much but still creates the detail. One thing I see many people do with their lineart is match the color close to that which it surrounds. Leaving it black on her works though since she had black hair and the kimono is black and you softened it so on the skin it works with the shading.

I'm glad you approve!

You've got a good eye, I did add texture to the hair. I'm glad that the extra detail helped with the shading in the hair, it was worth the effort.

I did blend the lines out. I noticed that the more I looked at the black lines, the more I needed to do something about how dark they were. Especially around the skin and her sword. I'm glad it improved the way it looks!

Thanks again for all your help!

Glad you went and added that in, was definately worth the effort

Yeah, around the skin especially they did look a bit dark and too much, looks much improved now.

You're welcome

You did great on this!

The movement couldn't be better, she looks so graceful and fierce at the same time, like if she were truly dancing in a battle.
