So everytime I was at a low ebb in dealing with the occasionally enervating aesthetic abyss that DA can be - someone has shown up and made me stick around. Laurel is one of them. The woman is a charmer.I have been meaning to do something with the visage of Laurel for a while (same as I have recently been doing with Digifox and the studies of Visioluxus's "Dark Angels") but have yet to develop ideas beyond the inital stages. This was another of those moments where I gave myself 15-20 minutes, a few Tombo pens, a Rotring Visupoint pen, and a reference photo with a lightbox and let the linestrokes fall where they may...

Yup I agree this is really good.. simplistic but very effective. The angle you have captured is very evocative and her face is really defined. Would like to see you continue with this into a larger image

Hot-diggity-damn! I'm loving the pen strokes, and the contrast in the colors--excellent use of blank space to add mood, and the lips...ohhhhhh man, those lips are fine! I need to get myself a girl with some thick red lips like those.

The detail in her eyes is the best part in my opinion, the dark eye lashes and lips takes the focus of the image and the way you shaded with skin with the subtle orange is a great 'technique' I guess you could call it.

the saddest thing is that the prettiest thing about laurel is her expressive face and I bet half the hits this work got was by addle-brained adolescents who saw cleavage and had a tidal testosterone tsunami happen in their shorts...If i had cropped this without the tits I wonder what kind of numbers I'd be hitting

The Lips certainly stand out as quite wonderful. As well as the entire picture of course. First thought i had when i saw Laurel's version was Nurse Page by Olivia and that still remains true except expressed through your eyes. As much as I love this and understand the need for artists to assimilate things they enjoy into their own repitoir, i think the style you have been working with for so long is flawless in my eyes and really doesnt need tweaking in the form of extra curicular sources. As an homage to Laurels vector work, however i think this is wonderful.
Oh yeah, and when are you gonna put that Trumpet Guy up on DAPrints, or can i buy the original from you?

Nice composition and use of colors. The maroon lips are wonderfully contrasting to the other colors. And teh boobies. Yep, there they are!
For some reason, Im quite fond of it this way, but it would be interesting to see how far you can work into this..the pose and composition have some awesome potential.
I agree with the 'aesthetic abyss' comment. But you know, theres more than a few people who make it worthwhile ^^. ::insert shameless icon plugs here:: mwaha
