The reason I really like this image is because of the subject in relation to its surroundings. I'm not sure whether this was intentional or not, but the red and black on the body and wings look quite menacing. Especially in comparison to the soft, light colours seen in the background. Rather than making the subject seem out of place, this creates more interest in the photo.
However it wasn't just the choice of subject. The artist has shown great skill in this photo. Capturing insects (especially flying ones) is not always an easy task, especially at such a close range. Also because of how close this image was taken, the amount of detail picked up is impressive.
Overall this is a brilliant, skillful capture. Well done.
