Description
I recently discovered and fell in love with the fairytale 'Bluebeard' and wanted to design my own Bluebeard and see if it takes me anywhere.I think I will go with the central design, the two full body ones.
If you don't know about that tale, then do check it out. Its a short one, buts its very dark and not really child friendly at all!

I haven't read it, but judging by the wikipedia article it says that he has a frightful beard. I think the closest beard to being frightful is the top right one.
It looks like a good story. I'll have to read it.

You have a very good point, Im happy with the costume design and hair for the middle designs, so maybe I just need to make the beard alot fuller and look like its taking over.
It might be interesting to start turning the beard into something? As if it has a mind of its own?
You think that may work? (obviously i'd be using quite a bit of artistic license, but then that's where the fun comes in)

That would be cool if the beard had a 'mind of its own' more or less. I think my only 'complaint' with the central beards is that it looks very well kept and thin. I'd expect someone who has a reputation for a frightening beard to be wider, or in some way seem alive (like the mind of its own thing)...maybe 'lumpy' or swollen in look? Or perhaps if you keep the thin beard make the fly aways look almost like plant tendrils?
I'm just blabbing now.
I do like the costume, and the key, and his facial structure, and of course I do love your style!!

Id like the play with the bird thing more, as if he has a flock of ravens living in his beard or something?

Very awesome. I love the addition, the hands give it a creepy vibe. It gives it a life of it's own, for sure, with the hands.
If you want to play with the flock of ravens thing a little more I might suggest you add some nest-like features to the beard? Otherwise I'm not sure what else to do.
And you definitely deserve the compliments.

Oh my, nests would me so fun! It would be fun to draw the occasional bird head poking out from beneath is beard! hehehe
Im planning to do a full illustration of him later today so hopefully his design can get narrowed down a little more.

Yes, the big plan is to make either a short animation or a short comic illustration for my final year project so everything will get designed at some point.
I just have no idea how the wife will look yet...

Hmm...the wife seems very shrewd, and her curiosity is what gets her into trouble with him, right? I want to say she sounds almost mousey...but not like plump-face mousey.

She's up on the recent deviation, i went through a few changes and this one seems to fit well.
I drew a massive dress to make more of a difference between the characters, and also it'll be fun to splash it all over with blood when I get round to doing that bit!
