Description A gift done for a former student and fellow Star Wars fan.  Acrylic on nonporous (internally screaming. my paintbrush gently weeps.) prefabricated composite letters approx 8x11 inches each, approximately 6 hours for each mostly due to layering and having to watch paint dry.  Also in hindsight Yoda might be the Avatar.

Misc update: my 2nd tablet officially kicked the bucket yesterday. It had a good run, lasted a solid 4+ years bless it's heart for all it had to put up with.  So though there are a few new comic pages SO. KRIFFIN'. CLOSE. to be being finished it might be a while until I can obtain a replacement. Until then there may be some traditional work or sketchdumps with minimal editing in the vague future.

That is such a nifty and nice idea - I bet your friend will love these!    Traditional painting is so much harder than it looks; I'm super impressed with how all of these look and the rendering (and maneuvering around the letters! geez).

Thanks so much! Agreed, especially when the paint doesn't really want to adhere to the surface - and when it does you gotta avoid making too many ridges with the excess paint (or at least make them consistent...)
Unfinished wood and canvas are certainly more forgiving than what these were made of.

Cool!

Though I have to ask. B stands for Boba Fett, R for R2D2, D for Darth Vader, and Y for Yoda, but what's O?

Thanks!
Would have picked someone that began with "O" but the student's mother informed me he's a big fan of Luke, so I went with Luke instead. Luke, Boba, Vader, R2D2 are his top four. Yoda for "Y" was a given.
Given that the "O" is centrally located and Luke is the "center" of the story for the "Original" Trilogy I thought it would be fitting enough.

Thank you so much! Your nephew has good taste in movies and wall decor.
(If you are interested in commissioning something like this note me and I can give you a quote.)

Thank you so much! He was super excited when I brought them in.
Luke was a must as Luke is his fave, but the composition was a challenge.  Hard to fit enough of a human face into that kind of shape like the other letters, so I decided to zoom out and do three mini Luke instead.

Thank you so much!  Broadening my mediums here, going to check pre-fab composite letters off my "been there, done that" list.  I think wooden letters are a bit more forgiving with brushstrokes. I ended up going pretty thick with the paint so it looked more intentional.

Well, you sure did a lovely job! When I worked at home depot, I used to love painting my aprons. It took a bit of work, but the end result was usually worth it. Painting on a thick, orange cloth isn't always easy lol

Thanks! Whole new set of compositional challenges which I was eager to accept.  Gotta have enough of the character so they're recognizable, but avoid any distracting tangents.

Sure, round 2 is fine by me.
Again, just keep it PG, credit, link back, send me a link to the story, and remember that even his "good side" is still a jerk most of the time and he abhors humanity in general:
