This photo immediately stood out to me even as a thumbnail not only with how vivid and contrasting the colours are but also with its creativity in focus, angle, use of make-up.
There's this fun, playful vibe about the photo. It gives me a smile to look at it because the individual portrayed in it appears to have a very interesting, light-hearted and friendly personality. Personally I am a fan of the harlequin "trend" represented in a lot of photos these days. It's a little cliche but it's fun to see it interpreted in different ways and seen from different angles. This shot has this childlike aura that makes me think of merry-go-rounds and lollipops. On the other hand, it appears to be more "adult", more serious in a way. Initially it provoked in me associations with childhood, as if the model is someone who still lives with the childlike perception of the world and enjoys it in the simple ways children do. But then again the fact that she's not smiling, her slightly parted lips and her tongue slightly sticking out add a mischievous and a subtly sensual hue to the image. I love the stare of her eyes - it's sharp and provocative and you've captured that very well. The boldness of the photo as a whole makes me wonder what the story of the girl is, what she is like in life and it brings me visions and associations to Amelie Poulen and her bizarre way of seeing things in life.
Now I don't find this photo particularly original because the concept is quite popular but you've managed to make it stand out with its unusual angle and details.
I think that if her face was centered in the photo it would look better and more balanced. Its position right now is a bit distracting because it's slightly more to the left. Also it appears as if it's a bit closer to the top than to the bottom of the photo. It might have worked better if the border above the contours of the face was a bit broader and dark since it would create a nice gradient effect from the light skin through the darker tones of the hair.If the face was centered it would attract all the attention of the viewer while now I find my eyes wandering around the photo.
Your use of complimenting colours here is amazing! They help the image really pop and add to the boldness of the model's expression. The fresh greens work very well with the bright reds but the drop of blue from her skirt is a little distracting. Personally I love it when there's one more colour in a photograph dominated by complementing colours so it's not the colour itself that disturbs me but rather its placement - it somewhat destroys the balance of the photo. Overall, I think that this portrait would work better if it's more symmetrical.
As about lighting, I think it's a great thing that it's coming from "below" (relating to the plain of the model's face), such a placement of the lightsource is not often encountered therefore it's more effective to look at and brings out the volumes of the forms of the face in a new way. In terms of lighting the photo is a bit overly exposed, which robs from the detail of the skin texture. The reddish shades of the skin that usually don't look good in portraits work well here because of the complimenting green but if the light was a bit more diffused that would perhaps help the details of the skin stand out better. On the other hand, sharper light also emphasizes the sharpness of the model's look so I'm not sure whether a softer lighting wouldn't ruin that effect.
The smaller depth of field is well suited for this photograph because it makes the viewer concentrate on the face while at the same time keeping the effect of the green colour of the grass.
I also like the associations this photo brings me relating to its angle - the fact that the camera is above her emphasizes the concept of childhood, making the model feel smaller in a way.
And finally I'd like to drop you a compliment on the make-up. It's simple but very effective firstly because it uses bright colours and secondly because the eye make-up doesn't detract from but rather adds to the model's eyes and let's us focus on the central point - her lips.
Overall, I think this photo is very eye-pleasing and memorable. Your use of colours here is what I'd say really makes it stand out. You could further expand on that particularly in this photo if you added accessories, for example a red ribbon in her hair or even a lollipop. I've looked at your other portraits, too. You have one more with a similar angle but I think a closer crop like it is in this photo works better for this kind of shots.
