Description
The name "Chapel of the Undying Void" came to me as I was trying to get to sleep. I sat up, put the light back on, and wrote it down to send it to Midjourney later. In a distant future, humans and other beings who travel among the stars have responded to the fear and danger of the emptiness between them by deifying and worshipping it. The image I had in mind was a much smaller and more intimate place, but after some effort I got this lovely interior. For once the inhuman nature of the figure at the centre, with two arms and four legs, is appropriate: the Church of the Undying Void accepts all starship pilots, regardless of species. It is a bleak religion: the Undying Void grants no prayers, and the most it will offer is not to kill you. There is probably a story in here somewhere.
