Finest Hour - Card Number 48: Simple Rope

“Guess that leaves the manticore to you, AJ, since Fluttershy is not here this time.”

Applejack took up a rope from her bag.

“Sure, Twi. Pinkie and I will catch up soon.”

“Thanks. Good luck!”

With a loud shout to get the manticore's attention, Applejack run towards it, swinging a loop of rope over her head.

“Yiihaa!”

While the two beats were occupied, Twilight, Rarity and Rainbow Dash passed on to the room ahead, which turned out to be their goal, the main chamber of the ruin. There was just one last obstacle: A huge gate, sealed ages ago, that denied them entrance.

The door was engraved with various glyphs and pictures, showing unicorns of a distant past summoning being from other worlds. It told a story of joy, discovery, new alliances. Friendship. Then one day, something happened. The otherworldly beings were no longer friendly, but tried to invade Equestria. All they could do was to banish it to the far end of the world, and seal the summoning chamber, as they did not have the planar return spell Twilight had found, it was made several hundred years later. But today, the seal had to be broken. It was composed of a simple lock, but the key was much more advanced.

“Twilight, do you really think this is a good idea? I mean, if they failed back then, with their greatest scholars of their time, what chance do we have?”

Twilight walked up to the key, which was placed on a pedestal before the gate, the one puzzle needed to be solved before the chamber could be opened. A strange box, with many smaller squares of color on the sides, the pictures indicated that all squares of each color had to be separated on each side.

“We have to try, Rarity. But let’s first get there. How does this thing work?”
