Β I'm looking to make a costume of my own, but I'm clueless on how to approach it... Do you think you could give some help, please? xD

The hard part is finding a similar leather jacket.Β  I got lucky and found mine on ebay for cheap.Β  The lighting is el wire attached to the jacket with a staple gun.Β  The decals were found online and cut out of duct tape.Β  And the wrist-puter is a kids shin guard, craft foam, clear duct tape and more el wire!Β  Hope that helps.Β

I love the outfit. Great job; it has helped me immensely in planning my own Matt Miller costume. I've managed to sew on the blue EL wire on my jacket, but I have one question. Did you use pink EL wire for the star pin as well? How did you make that one?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zhobot In reply to Offshoreecho [2013-09-26 02:27:57 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!Β  The star pin is just a neon duct tape outline.Β  Same with the Deckers skull symbol on the back.

zhobot In reply to DocScratch96 [2013-08-31 03:16:47 +0000 UTC]

Its actually EL wire that I attached to the jacket using a staple gun.Β  I actually had to do this because the leather was so thick!

Did you use a battery holder to power that EL wire? If so, where did you get the battery holder that's compatible with the JST connector? Thanks

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zhobot In reply to Brantonisme [2013-07-08 03:28:54 +0000 UTC]

I just bought an entire set of EL wire that came with a battery holder from ebay. I have also used adafruit.com to find specific EL things and other electronics.

zhobot In reply to Teramancer [2013-04-26 03:49:11 +0000 UTC]

Scour ebay for a good leather jacket, that's the building block. I just sort of patched stuff onto it after that (duck tape, stapleguning el wire). The arm piece is a kids shin guard, craft foam, clear duck tape, and more el wire. I hope that helps somewhat!

how did you do the skull?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

zhobot In reply to zoanthropelover [2013-04-26 03:42:50 +0000 UTC]

We were able to find a pattern online to print out, then cut it out of a flat sheet of duck tape.

zhobot In reply to zoanthropelover [2013-01-31 05:09:13 +0000 UTC]

The skull was a printed out template of the symbol that he traced onto a sheet of blue duct tape, cut out and then stuck to the back of the jacket. We figured duct tape would be the easiest way to go to put something on the back of that jacket since it was such stiff leather. XD

OMG this is kewl!!!!! How'd you guys do the lighting in the clothes? It's friggin awesome!!!!!!

zhobot In reply to abtc89 [2013-01-21 22:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! :3 Nate did the lighting on the jacket with EL wire - he had to staple it with a staple gun around the edges of the jacket (that was the only thing that would work to get it to stay on the thick leather! XD) and then the arm piece he made with EL wire sandwiched between two pieces of craft foam and contact paper.
