Description
Here's Merlunar! He's one of the main villains and a recurring enemy/boss in Paper Mario: The Ancient Book. (Red/purple background signifies you should be terrified of him, hehe)

There always has been some kind of mysteriousness in Merlunar. No one really knows Anything about him or his past, but he works for Count Darkow, so that means he also wants the Ancient Book. Merlunar says he is a Lunater, but never really shows his true identity.

During the prologue, Merlunar and the Mooncrashers interrupt Smar T.'s showcase in order to force everyone give him information about the Mystic Gems and the book itself. He fails to get more information, but attacks Mario and finds out something in Peach that might be of use for when they get their hands on the book.

Now that Count Darkow is aware of Mario's quest to collect the gems before him and stop him, Mario and co. will have to deal with Merlunar and the Mooncrashers hunting him.

The following tattle log is from the second to last encounter against him:

Tattle: That's Merlunar. He really wants to get rid of us doesn't he? He is able to heal himself a lot so let's be quick!
Max HP is 90, Attack is 7 and Defense is 0.
Looks like he's got a new array of spells! He might have updated those healing and powering up spells again. Do you think he's an actual Lunater? It might be just me, but there's something too uncanny about him...

Attack:
- Lunatic Spell: A powerful, dark magic blast that deals -7HP.
- Tomorrow Spell: A healing spell. Merlunar heals himself 10HP.
- Midnight Spell: Blinds Mario or partner, causing them to fail most attacks for 1 turn.
- Lightning Spell: Merlunar increases his attack power by +4 Attack for 1 turn. (This spell is replaced by Yesterday Spell in latter battles)
- Yesterday Spell: Basically a stronger Lightning Spell. It now gives +5 Attack and Defense for 1 turn.
- Oculus Spell: A spell casted by Merlunar's hat. It silences Mario or partner for 1 turn, causing them to be unable to use FP-using attacks.

Merlunar can bring up a lot of questions from others as to what he actually is or his background, but for now those questions will remain unanswered. You'll have to wait for the final chapter, probably.
