I....I can't remember. Β I was reading the Hobbit when I made this and it either said that there were evil bats in the battle or Vampires. Β It was like a one sentence thing and I went from there. (Unless I'm mistaken and it never said anything aboot bats or vampires.)

They did in the LOTR movies but I think they'll look different in the Hobbit.
