Jonathon Ostrum, better known as Johnny Ohm was a death row inmate who was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and several counts of murder. He was sent to the electric chair twice but miraculously survived both attempts to end his life. Before the third visit to the chair, Johnny was visited and abducted by an alien scientist, Niles Van Roekel. After many bodily experiments, Johnny was given the ability to become control all electricity around him and he was made to join a group of fellow altered humans that were codenamed The Imperfects.

After the Imperfects invaded New York and were defeated by the combined efforts of the Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, Johnny went on the run and hid himself away for years until he was found my Max Dillon, better known as Electro. Years of having his body change to suit his electrical abilities were taking their toll on Max and he was dying. The only solution to this problem was to convert himself into pure neural, electrical energy and control another electrokinetic and that was his reason for searching out Johnny. He was the perfect conductor to transfer his powers and personality into, but Max was too weak to overpower Johnny and instead ended up getting entirely absorbed into him. With this new source of power, Johnny went back into the world and decided to take everything that Electro had to make a grand comeback as the master of all things electric.
