I love Leo but I was also REALLY happy that he didn't appear in Assassin's creed revelations... at least LeoxEzio fans didn't get any more weird ideas.
"Endless affection, Mio Sophia. Forever yours, Ezio Auditore" - and same goes for that AltairxMaria scene.

I role-play DnD, Werewolf the Apocalypse and Airship pirated so I know exactly what imagination means
It would have been cool and original if the characters actually belonged to you and you made them both gay - the only problem is
that Ezio and Leo belong to Ubisoft and according to the creators, Ezio was a womanizer that eventually married Sofia and then died happily.
What Ubisoft says is canon, the rest is complete and utter bullshit.
Ezio and Sofia eventually traveled to AltaΓ―r's library in May 1512. Once Ezio decided to retire as an Assassin,
the two left Masyaf, and got married, moving to a Villa outside Florence, where they resided with their son and daughter.
In 1524, Ezio died of a heart attack, and his final words were in a letter addressed to Sofia, where he commented that
the love he had for her and their children was what had kept him going in his old age.

Taking two characters that someone else created and sending them on crazy adventures outside of what they were known for isn't imaginative? how do you think people come up with the ideas for their story?! a lot of fanfiction writers spend weeks penning this stuff, thinking about all the many elements that make up the story and how they'll work in relation to each other. Being a fanfiction writer myself I know how thought intensive this is; how my imagination makes one idea balloon into many. We're given the prompts (the characters), and we take it from there.
Or, if you want to get technical about what imagination means in regards to fanfiction, let me quote la trusty Macquarie dictionary:
IMAGINATION: 3. 'The power of reproducing images stored in the memory under the suggestion of associated images (reproductive imagination), or of recombining former experiences in the creation of new images different from any known by experience (productive or creative imagination)'
Especially funny since you mention that you role-play DnD (which incidentally I did too, years ago); Did you create The Forgotten Realms? didn't think so; and don't forget that you use their cities and objects and magic for your role-playing 'stories'.
Also, only Ezio belongs to Ubisoft, Leonardo belongs to Leonardo. So does the fact that Ubisoft took a man that really existed and involved him in things he didn't really do (the entire association with assassins and all the events revolving around them) mean that what they write is complete and utter bullshit? Hmm.. oh! or what about the dozens of other historical figures and historical events that Ubisoft used to serve their purposes throughout the AC games?.
So in conclusion, by your saying that fanfiction isn't imaginative (because it uses characters that it didn't create from the ground up), you're saying that Assassin's Creed itself isn't imaginative I guess.
Anyway, [/rant]

Nobody could ever replace Leonardo. I guess he just wanted to make Sofia aware of that. Love his entry.
Heads up sofia!
