Description This is a collaboration between myself and $chix0r which started with me doodling the head over about an hours worth of painting one day a couple of weeks back. I'd been practicing my brushing skills and trying to make some much softer lines than I normally produce. I added some of the detailing around the eye and mouth and roughly coloured it to give depth. I then thought nothing more about it until Fiona and I were chatting one day about unfinished work we both had. I showed her the sketch and she immediately wanted to do something with it. I showed her some examples of her work that I liked and asked her to do something based on those.

A couple of weeks went by until she sent me back a preview of what she'd been messing with and I totally loved it. We swapped photoshop files and I put the finishing touches to the piece and here we are! A finished collab! w00t!

We are both super happy with the results and the title seemed to fit perfectly. The fact it's a Porcupine Tree song probably won't surprise anyone much LOL

your Critique has just emphasized what $liquisoft said...this piece is art for art's sake...your critique presents the fundamentals of art for art's sake ...it is there to be nothing but a piece of visual entertainment...Art for art's sake was deprecated soon, since art is understood as a means to transcend (which implies it has to convey, express or represent something beyond its mere decorative existence)
About cave men...there are scientific studies refuting what you said... cave men didn't know what "art" was...the reasons to paint or sculpt something were completely different and far from our concept of art. And for sure, they were not decorating their caves

When I first looked at this deviation, I immediately recognized the influences from $chix0r in it. I think I said as much in my original comment. Fiona has a clear affinity for organic vector shapes and earth tones, and to that degree she's branded her work pretty well.
Now, my only major gripe about this image is that it feels so much like art for art's sake. To me it's not outright saying anything. OH LOOK I'M DONE!

I enjoy looking at your work. It made me think of this: When I ask God for something, God thinks about it.

Beautiful.
I agree with Illusio~5. It doesn't have to say anything.
An empathy with a piece comes and that is enough.

Feeling doesn't have to be given a word, a definition, a box to put it neatly away in.

It is the viewers responsibility to bring themselves to engage with a work of art and enter into an exchange, to allow what meaning they find to surface.

I love the colours in this picture. From the thumbnail the pic seems painful and sad but close up there's something deeply comforting about the shapes and colours. It's more like nostalgia
