Description If you do not know who this is, think back to a movie A Bug's Life. Remember the little Pixar short that played before the actual movie? Well, this man is from that animation. If that doean't ring a bell, he made a cameo appearance in Toy Story 2 as the toy restorer that fixed up Woody.

Anyways, he was best in the little Pixar short called Geri's Game. It is the one where he goes to the park and plays a game of chess against himself and cheats to win by faking a heart attack. This is where he looks over to see [himself] faking the heart attack, just before he checks his own pulse. So absolute cute and clever. I fell in love with this character after watching that. I was determined to draw him. Actually, I wanted to make a vector of this particular scene, but ended up doing it in traditional form. I did it 100% in Prismacolor pencils. No outlining or guides.

Like several others before, I took a picture of this, so there is a lack in quality compared to the original. Maybe one day I'll get my hands on a tabloid scanner. Doubt it, but I work in a print shop, so chances are some what there.

This was one of my most favorite Pixar-related short films! (my favorite part was after Geri had turned the chess board to win against his other half and the camera profiled a medium cut to see the expression on his face. ---I totally love that scene)

I really love how you captured the character. It is a beautiful portrait.

Thank you very much!

My favourite scene is when he faked the heart attack and he checks his own pulse.

Thank you! Looks better in person since I had to take a photo of the picture. There's way less grainy-ness and the black is much more solid and not shiny.

Well, you're using pencils aren't ye? of course it's gonna be grainy.

Well, yes. But the flash of the camera just made it look more so.

I thought I was the only person who remembered seeing the short IN THEATERS, lol. It's on like...every Pixar DVD now in the extras section...but I def. remember watching Bugs Life in theaters and seeing him before. I squeed when I saw him in Toy Story 2, and no one else understood. I love finding the "older" Pixar stuff they sneak into the new movies (like, also in TS2, there's Finding Nemo toys at Al's Toy Barn!)

Love it

Oh I know! I was so upset when they changed the one with the snowman in the snow globe. I mean, really, what was the point when they made the mermaid flat chested? In the original, she had huge breats. They wanted to protect children from what they see everyday. And anyways, these shorts were meant to be art, not things to entertain little children. It made me so sad that they took that route.

But Geri's game was so good. It was my absolutel favorite. I really loved the whole faking a heat attack when he's playing against himself. I thought it was the cutest thing.
