Sweet! A Derpy pic where she might be the hero!...Despite the skeleton ponies coming from the corridor and spying on Derpy and Carrot Top...Anyway, this is good! How the light is hitting everything is great. How it is drawn makes me think of the front page of a strategy video game for some reason. The Skeleton ponies add a good touch to what happened in that city, why are Derpy and Carrot Top there, along with the skeletons and how they are able to move. This pic is also a bit bone chilling from the skull ponies hiding in areas you don't think to look. All in all, great work! You make Derpy Hooves proud and a Legend!

Wow this is astonishing!
Your eyes are first attracted to Derpy and carrot top in the center, walking rather casually into some ruins looking of the Greek/Roman era (it is a bit hard to tell what exactly the buildings are from as some look Greek or Roman and some look Asian or even European. But this is not the real world and could just be what pony architecture is like). You notice their happy and care free expressions as they are exited to explore whatever mystery awaits them. As your eyes trail out, you find out that it wont be all that joyful. Using a perfect color composition, the ruins outside give off a really eerie and dark feeling. This is only emphasized by the hidden away undead skeletons, looking to ambush our carefree adventurers. This whole piece of artwork tells an exiting story, even creating a bit of dramatic irony with the skeletons waiting for the right time to attack the unsuspecting ponies.
The few things I have a problem with are the two ponies. It's hard to tell where they are walking, as the pathway they are following suggests that they should be going toward the viewer, but instead are walking/looking off camera to the left. This looks odd especially when you factor in that they could just slip past the skeletons entirely. Also, Derpy's expression (as cute as it is) feels a bit out of place. The artist gave her that (adorable) face to give off innocence and to create that sense of dramatic irony I mentioned. The problem is that it is a bit TOO cartoony. It is a very realistic style painting, and the very cartoon face, like I said before, feels out of place. On the other hand Carrot Top (meaning her expression) feels a bit more welcome, but that only adds to the contrast in style that Derpy already possessed. Another problem is the ray of light coming down. It is not directly centered on the ponies and takes some attention away from them. This makes it appear that they are not the real focus in a way. The light itself is a bit too hard as well, making the very eerie ruins in the background look not that eerie. It is a very warm yellow, and makes it a bit too distracting. It does add to the whole story behind it though, the yellow light making it feel like morning, as the adventurers got up early that day to have the whole day to explore.
That's really all I have to say; the painting tells a magnificent story about two adventures setting out on an exiting journey into a dark an forgotten ruin. The whole thing comes together almost perfectly as everything has surprising detail, and looks expertly put together.
Vision 5/5- You can tell what the artist wanted and envisioned, as they pulled it off very well.
Originality 3/5- Almost any RPG I have played had some sort of dungeon with skeleton warriors inside.
Technique 5/5- I don't really know what this is supposed to mean but it is a good painting. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>
Impact 5/5- this paining has a lot in it, everything to the story behind it to the beautiful colors used making it one of the most epic pony fan art to date.

(I don't really write these much, as I am not an expert. I really liked this piece of art and wanted to give my opinion as this is JUST my opinion. In truth I don't know that much about art, hehe.)

So... amazing work! First, I will tell you my personal opinion, that won't affect the final rating. Her name is Ditzy, and not Derpy, considering that that name is offending.
Now back to our business. An amazing piece of art. Though the style ain't something very special, it's very original. I love the shadows, the effects, everything! Though it doesn't have a big impact, I mean, it doesn't draw attention, it's very original, and i my opinion, the artist had a very impressive vision. One or two zombies seem to be forced inside this drawing. Forced as in they don't really belong there, but they make a great addition.
Great work!

While there is a fantastic amount of work placed into this piece; I have this odd sensation that there are things that are... off. But not extremely! Just a few little nit picky bits. The soldier's look like their faces got smushed by an over zealous Pinkie. I can see that you wanted them to look like the skeletons of earth ponies though. That is a great idea however, just a smidgen more to the definition there would be awesome. The lighting is ok, it's almost not bright enough but also not dark enough in places. I know, odd, but it feels iffy there...

/Otherwise/ it's a great piece of work, and I love the little details you added! The tail bones are awesome on their own. The ominous glowing red eyes depict the evils of undead skeletal earth ponies as they rise to defend whatsit in the ruins. I adore the excitement on Ditzy's face as she points to an interesting piece while Carrot Top seems to notice the dangerous presence of inexplicable evils.

This is honestly, very original. The gray-scale in the background makes the place feel old while the ponies in the fore-ground are youthful in their bright colors. The rays of sunlight show their path despite the dangers, and ahead; there must be a fountain that shines despite it's age and is covered in flora'd growth. More or less; a fountain of youth.

Finally, I want to say that no piece is perfect, and critiquing helps you get infinitely better. Talent is found in many places and my dear; it pours from your hands. Some molding will make for creations that truly make for more than a thousand words.

I made a short story for this! Listen to Carbon's music while reading this ^^ I hope you like it!Ā

Derpy and her best friend Carrot Top stumble upon these old temple like ruins and Derpy just can't help her adventurous side, so she starts to go into the temple ruins. She was soon followed by Carrot top, who didn't seem quite as eager to venture into these ancient grounds. "Hey, Derpy, are you sure we should be here?" Carrot Top asks her good friend. Derpy responds with a smile. "Come on Carrot Top, where's your sense of adventure? Oh! Oh! And look! This statue looks like Pinkie Pie!" The derpy eyed mare giggled as she pointed to an old run down statue, the grey statue looked as if it was just waiting to crumple apart as dust and cob webs covered it. Carrot Top looked around a little sheepishly, a worried look in her eyes. "O-okay. We'll explore just a little bit longer but not too long! I can't shake feeling like we're being watched..." Carrot Top shivered, despite the heat of the sun around them. The sooner we get out of there the better. She thought as she followed after her good friend as she went deeper into these peculiar ruins.ļ»æ

Hmm ... sounds good.

I loved the last part, Carrot top shivering despite the heat,
not being fully aware that some long-gone soldiers spy their modern fellow countrymares ...

I'm loving this. I just plain love ancient ruins (or any kind of interesting brickwork), and seeing these two set off for adventure through realistic-looking ruins (with pony statues and living pony skeletons, too) awakens feelings of great adventure within me. I can easily imagine myself adventuring alongside these two, and it made me grin from ear to ear. The joyfulness of the two live ponies juxtaposed amongst the grimmer setting and ominous out-of-sight skeleton warriors makes for a stunning contrast of tone, which only adds to the realism.

Well done.
