Personality
Behavior
Zircon tends to be withdrawn and aggressive towards anyone they don't know, and even those they do. It takes a great deal of time or some sort of phenomenon before they're willing to put their full trust in someone. Kindness isn't something they take or dish very well; their assumption is usually that others are always ready to be at their throat, so they respond with that in mind, whether it's true or not. If you do manage to convince them otherwise, though, they're loyal and and (despite denying it) will cling to you like glue and be a bit too possessive.Β

Brief History
Zircons were made to be no more than managers, supervisors, and organizers of the reports that gems such as Peridots sent in. Sometimes she would warp to the sites to ensure things had been going as planned and add her own report on top - it gave her some sort of superiority, in that way, and even if it wasn't much she took good advantage of it. Her job was a rewarding enough experience, and not one she could complain much about; she received high praise, enjoyed the scheduled lifestyle and the independence that came with it, and got to stick her nose in many gems' businesses and tell them exactly what's what. Her office space was nice enough, and surrounded by other Zircons - Zircons that simply wanted to do their work with no roughhousing or loud noises or Jasperish behaviour of any sort. It was lovely. But good things don't tend to last for a certain ice blue gem.

The ground that Zircon's batch had been grown in had seemed alright at first, and whoever confirmed this was bound to be punished for such a terrible observation. Zircons all across Homeworld began to report pains in their gems, feelings of dizziness and restlessness as well. It was passed off as nothing more than stress, with half-sincere suggestions to fix it - "do your job more efficiently, organize and memorize your files more often, check in with your Diamond on a biweekly basis rather than monthly" - but this proved wrong over time.Β

The first issue was terrifying to read: several gems in an in-progress colony shattered by the gruesome claws of a monster later identified as a Zircon apparently gone corrupt. As years went on, more and more reports came of similar situations and in higher volumes, stating that Zircons previously subject to those awkward feelings in their gems were going corrupt one by one. Our Zircon read them in silent horror, taking the unfortunate task of collecting these files and informing her Diamond case by case, instance by instance. Eventually, she had to report the loss of a Sapphire, and that's when Blue Diamond had enough. She ordered a recall on all Era 1 Facet 2-13 Zircons, planning on eradicating the problem by shattering them all.

Before Zircon could process this, she was thrown in a jail cell under Homeworld and forced to sit and wait until she was to be taken care of; there were too many to deal with all at once without having a mess to clean. In terms of the lifespan of a gem, she wasn't in there long - maybe a week at most - but considering she was awaiting a terrible death, it felt like an eternity. She didn't want to die. She wasn't ready to die, she'd done so much for Homeworld and this was not going to be how she left them. She couldn't die yet - so, she decided, she wouldn't.

When a pair of Amethysts finally showed up and deactivated the energy barrier, Zircon seized her chance. She may be fragile and weak, but she was fast too - the gems were tall enough to duck under, and from there she ran like she never had before, sprinting down corridors towards the nearest ship platform she knew of. Upon getting there, she dragged a gem out of their pod and climbed in their place, slamming the small hatch shut and hitting start on a launch sequence already half activated. A team of Amethysts reached the platform just as the small pod lurched up and exited the atmosphere.

Zircon, unfortunately, had never piloted her own pod. She had always been in the company of others, tagging alongside and doing work during the commute. So when it came down to going anywhere specific, or away from anywhere specific, she was at a loss (and unable to find the stupid instruction manual). She ended up drifting aimlessly in space for somewhere over two thousand years until she finally caught sight of a planet that seemed habitable enough to wait out the rest of her existence, yet barren enough not to harm anyone if she were to follow the footsteps of those other unfortunate Zircons. It was red, dusty, and completely uninhabited, as far as a left-open radar said. Mars. Determined once more to get somewhere, she tried the buttons and controls again, and this time it worked - but not in the way that she wanted it to. The pod shot forward in a burst of energy, catapulting Zircon all the way past Mars... and straight towards Earth.

In a desperate last attempt to save herself, she pressed as many controls as she could see, effectively shutting the engines off, but the rest of the ship as well. The pod hurtled towards the ground, crash landing in a field in the middle of nowhere and leaving the pod an unusable mess of wires and sparks. Zircon, miraculously enough, was fine. Upon realizing this, that she was in fact uncracked and intact, she exited in a hurry (you never do know when these things might blow up) and started walking... forward, wherever forward was to her at the time. Where it would take her, she wasn't sure, and still wasn't even when she found a road and started following that. It took her through the countryside for a few days, cautious to take her time on a planet that seemed so full of life, and eventually reached the end of the road where she would lay her eyes upon Beach City.

Gem-Island 's admin team has reviewed your application!

Everything looks super good except;
We believe that the shapeshifting ability holding period is a bit too long. Considering in canon gems are not able to hold their form for just a few hours, we believe that even with extended shapeshifting abilities they wouldn't be that extreme. A week or two, maybe, but a month is a bit too long. Sure, to a gem a month is a blink of an eye, but it would be very straining on a single gem to hold a completely different form in that length of time. Your gem was created to be just a paper pusher and the ability to shapeshift for very long periods of time wouldn't make much sense to deserve such a role.

Please review and get back to us as soon as you can!
