Description This was my first intent with watercolours in some time.
I didn't really like the result and therefore repainted this little fox. I'm going to upload the second intent soon.

Finally I managed to get a better photo of this one. I like it much better now, the contrasts are more acurrate.

I like the way you use watercolours.
It's fluid, and 'wet' (I mean your brush strokes aren't dry, 'scratchy', a common watercolour error)

You managed to keep only the fox's face detailed, so the piece has the freshness that suits the medium.
I like the warm/cold colours and the blurry background too.
I'd push even more on contrasts, next time. Lighter lights and darker darks.
Yep, some minor back leg issues, but that doesn't spoil it a bit.

Well done, do not get discouraged.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I've had a look at your gallery, and you paint some truly amazing watercolour landscapes, so I am especially happy, if you think I am good with this medium.
I can't paint lighter lights next time, since the lights are paper white, and I can't go lighter than that. But the darks I think you are right about. Especially on the fox's neck I could have gone even darker to have more contrasts.

Hi Fran,  what did you not like about the end  result in this one?

The colors are really beautiful. It looks like the fox is lying on a ledge with the sunset reflecting off his body and  his coat. (I say sunset because of the darker blue by his head.) I think this is wonderful use of your color scheme.  Using the pink for reflected light from the back ground sky on the fox gives  it a wonderful  color unity and pulls the whole composition together. Great job on creating depth between the fox and your background. The background sky is very beautiful and very eye catching.

The front leg at the shoulder area looks slightly off to me but that could be due to it being in the shadow area. I'm afraid I would not be able to make a suggestion on this since I am not really knowledgeable enough  in water colors.

It's a bit hard to explain in words
I'm very impressed with this painting.
As the viewer it gives me great pleasure to look at it and makes me realize how beautiful the natural world is around us.

Thank you so much for your feedback.

This is one of the rare occasions, where the colours come out a lot better on the photo, than they domin reality. The blue is actually a lot lighter and the beige is more yellow. Also, I didn't use any pink. All in all the fox looks very blueish and not very natural. I admit, that on this photo it comes out quite well.
The other thing is the anatomy. You are so right about the front leg. The problem is, I don't see, where I deviated from the reference photo and everything looked fine there.
The second intent (Im going to upload that tomorrow night when I have a laptop) shows only the head, thereby ignoring the whole leg problem and it is painted in much warmer colours (very similar colour scheme as lioness head). This one was supposed to have a similar colour scheme as the eagel's head, but that didn't really work out.

On my computer it has the most beautiful hues of sunset or sunrise  colors in the sky and what look like reflections of those colors on the  fox. The fox shows very pale pink violet colors in the highlighted areas. I thought you did that intentionally.
I'm wondering now if I need to re-calibrate my monitor. I'm almost afraid to do critiques  if the colors on my computer are that far off.

no, your computer is fine. It's this photo in general, where the colours came out a little different.
