Description Just because I know everyone isn’t going to agree with my housing choices, and to avoid getting a hundred comments asking me why I made these choices, I’m going to go ahead and explain why I put each person in the house that I did. I’d love to hear what you guys think, and whether you agree with me or not.

Santana (Slytherin): Do I even need to explain?

Brittney (Hufflepuff): Sometimes Santana’s Slytherin qualities rub off on her, but over all she’s a friendly girl who accepts people (also goes along with the negative stereotype that Hufflepuff isn’t the brightest house).

Rachel (Slytherin): To quote Kurt, her ambition does push ups in her sleep. Though she’s not as vindictive as many of the Slytherins in Harry Potter she pretty much is the embodiment of all the Slytherin characteristics.

Finn (Hufflepuff): Finn is friendly, works hard to uphold all his responsibilities, and tries to accept everyone. (and again, not the brightest). For those who think he’s a Gryffindor I remind you that in S1 and 2 he was not very brave about his reputation, constantly worrying what people thought of him, and the instances that he was brave it’s usually because Rachel, Schuester, or Kurt pushed him to act that way.

Puck (Gryffindor): I know a lot of people would put Puck in Slytherin because he’s a self proclaimed bad ass and he claims to have ambitions, but Puck is far too "in the moment" to truly be one. He constantly acts without thinking of the consequences. He’s very hot-blooded. He never plans ahead. He’s completely fearless. I mean he’s been in how many fights, slashed tires, ran a car into an ATM and drove off with the money. I mean he tried to date Rachel, Quinn, Lauren, and a teacher (enough said).

Kurt (Ravenclaw): (This is a long one, just warning you) I honestly believe you could make a strong case for Kurt in just about every house. He's brave, he's cunning and ambitious, and he's very clever. The only way I can think to explain my decision fully is to go house by house

I tend not to think of Kurt as Gryffindor (even though I’ve heard others passionately maintain that he is) because, though he is brave, he’s not hot-blooded. Kurt isn’t going to jump into a fight or act on instinct without thinking. He thinks about the best way to face adversity. Kurt’s bravery isn’t something he was necessarily born with either. I think it’s something he’s been forced to develop due to all the bullying he’s endured throughout his lifetime. When you’re bullied you either curl up in a ball and accept it or you stand up for yourself. I think there are a lot of people who you wouldn't necessarily place in Gryffindor who would stand up for themselves if they were harassed the way he has been.

Since S1 I’ve always thought of Kurt as a Slytherin. He was plotting, scheming, and ambitious, and he never hesitated to use underhanded tactics, like when he sabotaged Rachel by dressing her as a clown hooker or when he tried to get her kicked out if she dated Jesse. (I even made him a Slytherin in a Glee/Hogwarts comic I just did.) But this last year he hasn't acted anything like that. He fought a clean fight in the campaign when he could have used Slytherin ends-justify-the-means logic to cheat. He didn’t seek vengeance on Sebastian when he easily could have (and probably should have). He’s changed so much since S1, and his once perfect Slytherin characteristics are now barley recognizable. Slytherins are also supposed to be extremely traditional (Kurt spits in the face of tradition). And while Slytherins think they’re better than everyone because of some kind of birthright Ravenclaws tend to think they are better than everyone because they’re smarter.

Ravenclaws are very clever. Pottermore also defines Ravenclaw as extremely eccentric and individualistic (wearing what you want to wear and doing what you want to do regardless of what people think). Which I think is kind of perfect for Kurt.

As for Hufflepuff, I just don’t think he is one. He’s not particularly friendly, which is apparently one of their major defining characteristics. He tends to be icy and only becomes close friends with someone after he’s known them a while, rather than making a lot of casual friends easily. Let’s face it, he’s not humble either.

Blaine (Hufflepuff): He’s extremely friendly, he works hard, and he tends to accepts everyone. Though he’s not exactly dim witted Blaine is very oblivious (which is why they’d kick him out of Ravenclaw). And though some may be tempted to dress him in red and gold because of AVPM, Blaine ran away from bullies and let Finn dump all over him for months. He doesn’t stand up for himself (unless pushed really far) because he avoids conflict. He’s a people pleaser. And If you need anymore proof just look at his derp smile. He’s a Puff all the way.

Mercedes (Gryffindor): She stood up to Sue and Kurt when they tried to guilt her about dieting, she stood up to Puck when he tried to uphold the “social order” by bullying, she’s stood up to Santana, Rachel, and Schu on multiple occasions, and she held on to her faith even when it caused a rift between her and Kurt.

Sam (Gryffindor): This is a guy with some balls. He fought Karofsy without flinching. He bared his heart to Quinn with a promise ring after like one date, just asking for it to get stepped on. He’s constantly threw himself at Mercedes when her boyfriend was like a beast who could've easily kick the crap out of Sam. And, let’s face it, he was brave enough to get up on a stripper stage (not sure I’d have the balls lol).

Quinn (Slytherin): It was a really hard decision between Ravenclaw and Slytherin. It’s like she has a split personality. One Quinn is scheming, ambitious, and will do whatever it takes to get what she wants (the perfect Slytherin), and the other is sweet, level headed and smart enough to get into Yale. While I’m pretty sure Quinn will spend the rest of the season being more like her Ravenclaw self, she has spent the majority of her time on the show acting Slytherin (First half of S1, most of S2, and the first half of S3), but what really clinched it for me was her Loosey Caboosy past. This is a girl who changed everything about herself to get ahead, and she continues to embrace many of those changes. Someone who is even capable of changing themselves that much to fit in is not okay being eccentric or being an individual the way a Ravenclaw would.

Artie and Mike (Ravenclaw): Kind of goes without saying.

Tina (Ravenclaw): She's in scholastic decathlon. She’s extremely eccentric, if her style is anything to go by. And the fact that she pretended to have a stutter so long proves she’s something of an individual.

For anyone who’s curious I think the Heads of house would go as follows:

Sue Sylvester (Slytherin)
Shannon Bieste (Hufflepuff)
Emma Pillsbury (Ravenclaw)
Will Schuester (Gryffindor) (Though, I actually think he's more Slytherin, he's been referred to as "the golden boy", and frankly I just needed a Gryffindor head.)

With the kids in these houses I think I’d want to be a Hufflepuff, especially with Bieste as our Head of house, seems like a fun bunch (but I'm really something like a Slytherclaw.)

Loving the choices, youhave actually thought about the real characteristics of each house not the stereotypes and I wouldn't change a thing. I'm so happy to be a Hufflepuff! XD

I agree with all your choices
But I think Rachel could fit into more house than just Slytherin...
Ravenclaw: She is really smart, top grades, she is also eccentric and individualistic (like Kurt).
Gryffindor: She has been bullied (as far as getting asked to kill herself), but she always put a smile on her face anyways, she is not a coward, she is loyal to her friends (even when she is against them, she is loyal in the end), she is trying to help everyone (,but not always in the right way), even when they are plain mean to her (Quinn, Kurt, Mercedes).
I do agree with your choice too, she is perfect in Slytherin, but not as mean as they are in the books/movies.

Do I see some Hummelberry-friendship in your picture, or is it a coincidence that they are placed that way? I just love that friendship

Yeah, I love hummelberry friendship! They're my favorite.

You're totally right about Rachel potentially being able to fit into any house. I think you could make cases for almost everyone to fit into multiple houses. I guess I made my final decisions based on the attributes I saw as being either "most prevalent" or "most innate". Rachel is smart, brave, and loyal (most of the glee kids are actually), but I see ambition as being one of her most defining attributes, what sets her apart from others. Other fans who cherish different qualities about her may see another characteristic as being most dominate. I had that problem with Kurt since he's my favorite(which is probably why his description ended up being so long). I guess, the more you know a character the harder it is to break them down into a single attribute.
(sorry this reply is so late)

It's okay
I agree with your choice, I was just tired of everyone putting Rachel In Slytherin because they don't like her. ( something I really don't understand, most of the gleeks love Kurt and he is the male version of Rachel)

Yeey, another Hummelberry-lover!

Love you art, btw! You're great

i love your artwork it is just amazing, but i personally think that Quinn should be in Ravenclaw, but you are right she could also be in Slytherin when she goes into HBIC mode. and also i love Huffelpuff!Brittney, i don't think she belongs in any other house (plus it would be kind of cool to see a Slytherin and Huffelpuff dating since they are such polar oppisties.)

I would tend to agree with the houses you've placed them in. I still can't usually bring myself to think of Kurt as anything but a Slytherin, but you make a good argument for Ravenclaw. Also, I've always thought of Sam as a Hufflepuff, because he's not the brightest but he's really kind and accepting, but I see you're point for Gryffindor. Adding to that, it probably took some balls to put on a brave face for his younger siblings when his family didn't have a house and he was one of their main caretakers while his parents searched for jobs He had to grow up a lot faster than most teens, and tried not to complain about what he was going through (hecertainly whined a lot less than others in Glee have, and they've done it over smaller things).

I would have to disagree with Mr. Schue being the Head of Gryffindor, though. Maybe it's just my distaste for the man speaking, but he's always seemed /very/ crafty to me. He constantly manipulates people and situations to working in his favor, and he mainly gives solos to Rachel and Finn, stopping other glee clubbers from shining, because he wants to win, and every time he promises he'll be different, he gives other kids small solos for one episode, then goes straight back to favoriting Rachel and Finn, because, again, diversity won't win them competitions. He lies and toys with others emotions to get what he wants, but when somebody else does the same to him, he's acts like it is the most painful thing to ever happen to him (though what Terri did was undoubtedly terrible, and I won't excuse her for that). I mean, he can't beat out Sue for Head of Slytherin, but I think that if he were a student, that would have been his house.

Ignoring what house you would /want/ to be in, what house do you think you'd be sorted into. Trying to view this as objectively as possible, I am most definantly a Slytherin. That's why I can't really fault other characters for being manipulative, because I am just as, if not more so. I almost never act without thinking, and everytime I do something, I map out a million different ways the situation could go, and try to figure out ways to make the outcome be in my favor. I'll also do about anything to get ahead and to achieve the goal I have set, even if I don't reach them in honest ways. I came out of the womb lying so the odds would be in my favor. Possibly as a testiment to this, almost none of my friends would ever pin me for Slytherin, because they don't /know/ how manipulative I can be (they'd probably say I was Hufflepuff or something - actually, it depends which groupd of friends you ask, because different people see different sides of me, depending on which personality I judge will fit with the situation best). And I feel fine admitting this on the internet because it's not like anyone here knows me in real life. I swear to god I'm not a psychopath, though (I do have empathy), I'm just not as kind and honest as people believe me to be.

One of the only things I absolutely refuse to do is plagerism. I know it's strange that /that/ violates my moral code, but the idea of people stealing anyone else's writing pisses me off. Maybe that's the writer in me speaking .

So anyway, what house would you be in and why?

ZiyalRising In reply to MelloMatt-ftw [2012-04-17 04:18:07 +0000 UTC]

I'll always think of Kurt as an honorary Slytherin, and maybe he would've been one if he was sorted at age 11, since his Ravenclawness has only come out recently. It's also possible that Kurt's Slytherin traits are a result of bullying. I've noticed he used to be way more bitter, snaky, and ambitious back when the bullying was a regular occurrence, so maybe it all developed as a coping mechanism.

I agree about Sam too. Hufflepuff would've been my second choice for him. It didn't hurt that putting him in Grythendor helped even out the numbers in the houses either. I stand by my reasoning for him, but the way it was made it come out G=3, H=3, S=3, R=4.

I agree about Schue. I obviously don't much care for him so props to everything you just said. I guess I just put him in Gryffindor because he's a self proclaimed "golden boy" and he's got that whole vibe going on, but I really like all your reasoning.

I just signed up for Potteremore (a couple of times lol). I wasn't feeling too well this last weekend, so me and my friend spent all day Saturday on the phone signing up for new accounts over and over again and seeing where they sorted us with different questions. lol I got Slytherin 4 times. I think I definitely have a lot of Slytherin going on, but from what I've read recently I think I tend to identify with Ravenclaw more. I'm extremely individualistic and eccentric. I totally nerd out over everything I'm into. I spend a lot of time lost in thought and just contemplating the nature of thought and people (I'm a psych major.) Idk. I guess I'm a Slythclaw. I could do okay in either. I like the idea of the Ravenclaw tower more, with lots of windows and gorgeous views. The thought of the Slytherin dungeons makes me feel claustrophobic and depressed.

I like most of your choices. I personally tend to avoid sorting characters into Hufflepuff because in my eyes that's where they send everybody who fails to qualify for the other three houses. LOL. So I like to put Finn in Gryffindor since he strives to be a leader and Brittany in Ravenclaw because she's a genius in a Luna-like way. I also really agree with your Quinn description. She is so half and half. And I feel Tina is the epitome of Ravenclaw.

Artie is sitting on a stool. I figured since he's a wizard they would probably be able to heal his spinal damage, so he wouldn't be wheel chair bound (though in 7 books they haven't manged to fix Harry's eyesight. Don't know what that's about.)
