Many people don't like Discord as a character . . .they call him a jerk etc. That's why they think he doesn't deserve Fluttershy... but as you say, to each their own 
I know right!? Their story lends itself so perfectly to the "life-long friend turned lover" trope!

Yeah he's not always like that. And let's face it, even if he is it's often hilarious. He might not be what you would call a good guy always, but I think he's a good (because INTERESTING) character most of the time. And you're absolutely right, the influence a shy yellow horse has on him is amazing!
Yeah, Fluttercord has a great trope like that too. She was his FIRST ever friend, after they were enemoes. The first character other than himself he ever cared about. And she likes how his chaotic side brings some deviation to her norm. That's ridiculously simpliefied, there's more to them than that obviously.
So yeah, Fluttercord very much is a cute ship too! Their babies will be beautiful! (And they can actually have any, that's a pro they have compared to Flutterdash, haha ~~)

He's not a 100% good guy indeed but we can see he's doing his best (when he wants), actually I kind of see Discord as a little silly boy who is learning what is wrong and what is good.
