Description He was in the black once again, but something felt different. The usual press of dark life, the scent of death, it was missing. Then light and color began to appear, slowly growing and spreading in to identifiable colors and shapes. He stood in a city, ruined buildings and air that was deathly still. Plumes of mist swirled in to creation, they too took familiar forms. People now walked by as if the city around them was in pristine condition, ignoring Lucan and each other. Tentatively he reached out to a passing woman, his fingertips merely gliding through her as if she were of air. He stood in the thick of them, confused and afraid as they passed.

"What is this?" He whispered to the mist, his dreams had never been like this before, it had only ever been the suffocating blackness. Movement caught his attention and he spun to face it, something walked amongst the spectres of people. He froze at the sight of a creature that walked toward him, a flesh colored mess that could have once been human. It stood taller and wider than a man, limbs hung awkwardly as if the bones had been broken and never set, hand-length claws extending from each gnarled finger. Eyes were black masses that focused on him, it's wide mouth parting to reveal sharp fangs that glistened with saliva.

"This is just a dream," he muttered to himself, "You'll wake up in a minute…c'mon wake up dammit!" Lucan tried to keep calm but something wasn't right, it seemed all too real. The creature had reached him now, it bellowed out guttural roar and swung at him. Lucan remained as he was, expecting to wake as he always did and had not even noticed when one of the misty people broke away from their course and ran to him. He was shoved, quite hard, to the ground and watched the scene unfold before him. His savour was a young woman that now wielded a heavy blade against the creature, it swung at her and she ducked then rolled to the left as she dragged the blade through the kneecap of the creature. It screamed in pain and swung again at her, her blade arced upward and sliced through it's arm. Blue-black blood spewed in to the air, she kicked out with a heavy booted foot, catching the creature square in the chest. The muffled crack of rib bones breaking spurred another scream from it and in a frenzy it lunged forward, fangs aiming for the delicate flesh of her neck. She fell on to her back with the creature atop her, fighting to reach her throat and quickly loosing strength. Her sword had plunged through it's chest and severed the spine, it's unnatural blood flowing over the hilt and soaking her arms and chest. When it finally stilled and the flow of blood slowed to a sluggish ooze she pushed the creature to the side and rose then glared at Lucan.

"You idiot!" she screamed, "What the hell do you think you're doing?! You could have been killed, I could have been killed. Don't you know anything you imbecile? You stupid son of a…" She stopped yelling as she realized Lucan had curled up in a ball and visibly trembled. She closed the distance between them and rested a blood covered hand on his shoulder, feeling him flinch at her touch.

"You don't know what you are, do you?" Her voice now a soft pitying whisper.

Lucan had shrunk back when she yelled but to hear the pity in her voice…he snapped, sitting up and clenching his fists. "What I am?" he yelled, "I'm a freak! I'm insane! I'm a damned monster for all I know! Dreaming like this for fourteen years, scared to sleep, family abandoning me, I'm a fucking freak! That's what I am! Why can't you just let me die?"

She rested her sticky gore covered hands on his shoulders and lightly squeezed, a tiny smile curling her lips. "You're none of those things, you're a Dreamer. And now, it's time for you to wake up."
