What's really amazing is that 8 years after the season finale, ZuTarians are still complaining and saying that ZuTara should've been canon. I get the sense that these people don't even watch the show... ZuTara has never even existed in Avatar canon.

That was the case with many Zutara shippers back in the day; teenage girls who just had a crush on Zuko and liked to put themselves in Katara's shoes, or boys who liked Katara and liked to imagine themselves as Zuko.

Itβs also kind of hypocritical how some of them say that βKatara is too old for Aangβ when, if you go by that logic, Zuko would also be βtoo oldβ for Katara.

There are two sources. The first is a snippet from Avatar Extras in the second episode, "The Avatar Returns"; it says that Zuko and Katara were originally meant to be a couple. This is already confirmed to have been a joke by the writers.
The second source is so obviously fake it's not even funny. Back in 2015, someone on Tumblr made a post they called "My Conversation With Aaron Ehasz". This person claimed that they were an intern at Nickelodeon, and had a chance encounter with Head Writer Aaron Ehasz in Philadelphia. Aaron allegedly told them there was going to be a 4th season of Avatar in which Zuko and Katara would become a couple.
I want to note that the person who posted this story never presented any evidence to back up their claims, and in fact outright refused to give proof of their being an intern at Nickelodeon when asked; citing "privacy concerns" as a convenient excuse. After several people challenged their credibility, this person deleted the original post... and yet there are still rabid Zutara fans on Tumblr reblogging the story and bitching about how Kataangers "bullied" this person into taking it down.
TL;DR: On one hand, we have official interviews with Mike and Bryan where the say outright that they never meant for Zuko and Katara to become a couple... and on the other, we have a second-hand account from a random Zutara fan on Tumblr of an "interview" with Aaron Ehasz saying that there was going to be a 4th season with Zutara in it. You do the math.
