*The sealing piece of two
"Banshuu / 晩秋"
Species: Tsukumogami of a Shimenawa rope
Abilities: Purifying, sealing and creating barriers
Two seasons ago, during autumn, a mystical energy was leaked into Gensokyo by a magical mallet. That energy affected
some youkai in a way that made them go insane, and it made weapons act strangely. It even made some inanimate
objects come alive, or in other words, it created Tsukumogami.
That energy reached Gensokyo's every corner, even a small garden close to the forest of magic. Around a big oak, a
powerful Shimenawa rope was tied, and that rope started absorbing the mystical energy. It started transforming into not
one, but two humanoid creatures. Two Tsukumogami had been created from the rope's enormous powers together with
that of the mallet.
The youkai that had been born were of course confused about what had happened, and left the garden they had been born
in to explore the world they were now living in.
It turned out that they were not the only Tsukumogami that had been created as of late. Another Tsukumogami named
Horikawa Raiko told Rikka and Banshuu, as they were now called, about what was happening. Everything was in chaos
because of the mysterious energy that had turned them into Tsukumogami, so Rikka and Banshuu hid themselves in the
Forest of Magic.
When everything started to calm down, Rikka and Banshuu dared to show themselves again. They noticed many objects
laying on the ground. When they found Raiko again, she told them that since the power of the mallet had disappeared, the
Tsukumogami were returning to regular objects. However, it didn't seem like Rikka or Banshuu were affected at all by this
turn of events.
Days later, they were still alive and well. They started asking themselves why that was, and came up with one solution. The
Shimenawa rope that they had been born from was sealing a spirit in that great oak in the middle of the garden, so their
spiritual energy together with that from the oak were connected. That meant that as long as the oak, or the spirit inside it
were alive, their energy would stay connected, allowing Rikka and Banshuu to stay alive as well.
Not realizing the consequences of not being close to the oak they had been sealing, they ventured to another part of the Forest
of Magic, and stayed there.
They could feel something happen to the garden where the oak were, and saw that the spirit that had been resting in it had been
released. She seemed to be talking to some other people as well. Rikka and Banshuu were about to walk up to them and
introduce themselves, but stopped when they were close enough to hear what the spirit was saying. She seemed to be furious at
the fact that the Shimenawa rope had disappeared. Scared of being punished, Rikka and Banshuu ran away from the place and
back to their place in the forest of magic.
------------
One day during early spring, they got visited by a girl named Onwatsume Inuno. She said that a pure energy had been radiating
from this place, and asked if they were the cause of it. They said yes, and asked if they were causing any trouble for anyone,
but Inuno said that she was just curious. The hoko did however ask where they had come from, since their energy had appeared
just recently. Rikka and Banshuu explained what had happened, but were met with a pretty serious answer from Inuno. She told
them what the consequences them leaving had made, that the spirit, Shizue had captured a bunch of youkai in order to find the
one that had stolen the rope. Inuno recommended going back to Shizue in order to set everything right, but the Tsukumogami
were still scared of getting hurt, so they didn't leave.
After getting beat by, Reimu, Marisa and Masami, they agree to join up with Shizue again. They wouldn't be able to seal her
again though, since their powers had been divided i half when they had split into two. It didn't matter if they combined their
powers, they simply couldn't "sync". They did explain what had happened to Shizue though, and it turned out she didn't get
angry at them.
----------
So, the way I imagine the battle with Rikka and Banshuu is that you fight Rikka most of the time. If you die, it's like TD's spirit world were you fight Banshuu, but until you get hit by a bullet instead. While fighting Banshuu though, her patterns are way easier, but she'll start to drain energy from a meter in the side of the screen. Once that meter is empty, you loose the battle. You collect that energy during the stage by defeating certain fairies, so it depends on the player for how long you can fight Banshuu. To stop fighting her though, all you need to do is to get hit by a bullet. You won't loose a life by getting hit by a bullet when fighting Banshuu. You only return to the fight with Rikka. The good part of fighting Banshuu instead would be that because her patterns are easier, then you would be able to basically skip a pattern from the regular battle with Rikka, but not much more since your meter will drop empty.
