Description A flash of light flickered through the bunker through a window. Not even a second later, thunder roared. It rattled the walls and shook the books in their cases. A quiet whimper can be heard if you listen close enough.

“Chase..?” Blades asked into the darkness.

“Y-yes. Of whom am I.. I speaking to?” Chase replied, his voice quivering.

“It’s me, Blades,” the little bot responded softly.

There was silence, then, “Thanks Primus. Blades, my sweet..”

Blades couldn’t stop the blush on his faceplates as he walked over to Chase’s resting place on some cushions in the back. The thick-framed police bot smiled weakly. Having been temporarily paralyzed on a mission, all he could do is move his head, and sit there uselessly.

“Is everything alright?” Blades asked, stroking Chase’s helm.

“‘Everything’ is no-“

A flash of light and an extremely loud thunder clap. Chase’s faceplates shifted to convey shock. He whined and appeared to panic.

“Chase, calm down,” the orange bot crooned as he leaned over and kissed him on the cheekplate. “Take it from me, it’s going to be fine.”

“I know, I know..” Chase took a quick breath to calm himself down. “I just.. it’s irrational, I know, but I can’t help it. The vibration, a-and the sound.. I-I can’t get over the sound..”

Blades understood were Chase was coming from. After all, he too used to be terrified of lightning. Before Cody taught him the trick to overcoming it, he’d just turn up the TV and try to ignore it, but most times the power would go out and he’d be stuck, alone, in the bunker as everyone else worked.

“Hey, Cody taught me..”

“Counting? Yes, Chief taught me that, as well. It dos-“

Lightning flashed.

“One, two, three…” Blades counted the seconds.

Thunder clapped, and Chase reacted the same.

“See? Three miles away.”

“No, it’s three-fifths of a mile away. You have to divide the number by-“

Lightning flashed again.

“One, two, three, four..” Blades counted, then stopped when the sound rumbled through the bunker.

This scene continued as such, Blades waiting for a flash, then counting the seconds. Chase then did the math, because he’s just that nerdy. Only then did the police bot relax, eventually counting with the younger bot (before doing the math, of course).

“Blades,” Chase started.

“Yeah?”

“Can you.. hold my servo?”

The copter twitched at the odd request, “Wh-why?”

“I..” Chase looked away, optics glimmering. “I just need contact with somebody.”

Blades gave a soft smile and slipped his servo into Chase’s. He leaned his helm on the bot’s shoulder and listened to the silence of the firehouse, the faint sound of rain hitting the windows, the distant rumble of thunder.

“Blades,” Chase repeated.

Blades sighed and chuckled, “What?”

“Thank you for being here for me.”

“Forever and always, Chase.”

Chase could only nod in response, so Blades kissed his chin.

“Forever and always.”
