I don't like Ruger's current model of the GP100, purely because it looks like crap. I'm guessing this is an older model, because it looks a bit different, and certainly better. But anyway, it is nice to hear that it's a really accurate gun. How would you say it performs compared to an equally chambered and sized S&W revolver, such as their Model 686?

As of yet, having shot all kinds of other revolvers (all kinds of S&W too) the only .357 that I would trade this one for is the Colt Python. Not to say some of the S&W aren't good, its just they are carried a bit too far by name alone. Just being a S&W is not enough, from my experience most of them are very solid revolvers but are just not anything special. Though diehard S&W fans would shoot me for saying so, but it is the truth.
And no... this is a new one. I replaced those shitty new grips with some of the old factory grips from the older models. Other than that it is the same as the new ones being sold now. The new grips don't just look bad but they feel like crap too. I believe that aside from the grips the current GP100 is the same as it has been since it replace the Security Six.

Wow, that really says something! I wish I had a Python myself too, though. It's too bad Colt's collective IQ dropped a thousand points, because I'd love to buy one new. Same with the Anaconda. (Seriously, what the hell is wrong with them?) Anyway, yeah, I know S&W can be a little overrated sometimes, but I do like many of their revolvers. I will likely go with the GP-100, myself, because of how tough Ruger's guns are known to be. As for the grips, I don't know, I might replace them too, but they've kinda been growing on me a bit, lately. After all, they are Hogue grips.
Another revolver I've been considering, though, is the Chiappa Rhino. I've heard nothing but great things about it. A lot of people think it's hideous, but I love the look, and it seems to function extremely well, too.

Ah! That means you have excellent taste. Not only is it well built and reliable but its a true nail driver if I ever saw one. In terms of accuracy the only gun I have that can perform as well as this one is my 1911 longslide, and it cost about 3 times as much. lol
Not to mention that .357mag is my favorite round.
