That's because it is a croquet mallet.... I, being the silly Alice fan that I am, took a lesson out of the Cheshire Cat's book:

I would feel like a kid in a candy store, so many weapons. Personally, I would go for archery and throwing knives, though a sword isn't a bad choice, with the exception that they are so heavy.
