Description We watched the snow fall thick
like powdered sugar, dusting the ground
while we crushed pills, divided into lines,
thick white to match our atmosphere.

Dollar bill pressed to my nose, I watched from your
dirty window. The way the world grew soft and silent
for a while. I bit my lip while our eyes grew glassy,
mine like starbursts, yours like melted chocolate.

Snow reminds me of purer times, you sighed
as you crafted out a Vicodin lullaby.
Words dripped from my lips like water, and we
made promises we could never keep.

(We talked about those memories.)

In this day and age, we shake it off like a bad
first impression. Moments of lucidity are rare in
our dance of life, numbed by every substance that
isn't meant to be abused.

You tumbled into the rabbit hole.
I stayed up and watched for a while,
pure white snowflakes, prettypretty dusting
inside my mind.
