Description
Hephaestus, the roman god of fire and forge. Ungh....I REALLY don't like how this turned out. I mean his eyes look pretty but...
Critiques are much appreciated as well as techniques to improve this style.

My own idea of Hephaestus.
Now before you say...
WHUT HEPH IS SUPPOSED TO BE UGLAY!?
Here's a few things to think about-
To Greeks, especially the gods ugly meant:
1. Any marring of the skin AKA scars, freckles, DISABILITIES. Heph, has a gimp, and he works on metal so he's probably scarred.
2. Large genitalia and breasts were frowned upon. The smaller they were the better. I have a Roman pic of Heph in my Art book that would make most men feel inadequate today. In other words, HUNG LIKE A HORSE. Can send a link tot he curious folk.
3. Most men were cleanly shaven and washed, Heph was usually busy and therefore unkempt. He would usually be seen with soot or dirt from work on him, and her would have a beard, usually depicted as a short one.
So, by godly standards, he is horrifically ugly. By mortal standards, WHAT THE FUDGE ARE YOU TALKIN' ABOUT!? HE'S... MANLY!

I must say, This piece of work it really nice. I have been looking through your gallary and...I am very pleased. You are doing such a great job, so don't stop! This piece is very, rough in a good way. Heph is very well presented here, and in this case nicely drawn out. Thank you for the backgound knowledge & giving us, the viewers a better understanding of why he is marred/scorched/ & scarred. They colors play in nicely, especially the skin color & the hair color. No, but Odysseus [link] is supposed to be small and covered in hair. or at least that is what my teacher told me, and i know she's usually right.
He is one of the suitors of Helen and she doesn't chose him b/c of above reasons. So, he asks for Penelope, who is a much better match for him.

Here's a tip: make the scars a bit thinner and add texture to them for a bit of a realistic look
