Description Prince
June 7, 1958-April 21, 2016

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life. Electric word, life, it means forever and that’s a mighty long time. But I’m here to tell there’s somebody else....Prince.

A man of many talents and gifts, one who could not only play but master seemingly any instrument within his proximity. Could totally rip on guitar, play some sublime piano, program and play some of the slinkiest synthesizer lines, could kick up a storm behind a kit or on a drum machine, and could play some slapping bass. All of this in addition to being a great singer, songwriter, and producer. He could be a one man band and deliver a record so tight and on point, you almost forget it’s pretty much all one dude.

Genres? Categories? Forget about them, Prince was and is a world unto himself. Funk, pop, rock, new wave, all boiled into what we know as the Minneapolis Sound. And then his world would soon demonstrate elements of psychedelia, jazz, electronica, progressive soul, experimental, hip hop, and whatever Prince felt like doing at the moment. He did it all, and made all of it his own. And you could rarely help but be eager to join him on his voyage, because you knew it was bound to be interesting.

Prince’s music has been apart of my life for so many years, beginning through a combination of my mom’s record collection featuring a compilation of Prince songs plus Batman 89. Though the Batman album is perhaps not top tier Prince in hindsight, but when you’ve got a soundtrack to Batman’s adventures and the Joker and his gang vandalizing an art gallery, you can’t help but be won over as a wee lad. And I just had to dig into his canon-1999, Purple Rain, Sign O The Times, Around The World In A Day, the Love Symbol Album, and Parade to name a few. Even when I perhaps didn’t get it on first listen, his work could always provide you with a great depth and meaning, all as you got your groove on.

He was a one of a kind individual and proudly so. As somebody on the spectrum who didn’t always fit in and often felt alone, Prince gave me at least one figure to look up to and realize that I didn’t have to conform, that I was completely worth it just being me. And he provides me yet another example of somebody who simply followed their heart and sought to be the best artist they could be, irrespective of commercial success.

He may not be here physically anymore, but his spirit and legacy are truly immortal.

Game, blouses.
