Description

I was making thumbnails for the 'Family' section of Asami's profile, and I figured I might as well post them here.

Chuujiku Atsuko

Chuujiku: 宙 (space/mid-air) 軸 (axis)

Atsuko: 圧 (pressure) 子 (child)

One of the top female Pro-Heroes of her time, Chuujiku Atsuko is Asami's incredibly boistrous and fiercely protective mother. Clawing her way up a mostly-male-dominated career in Heroics has made Atsuko tough-as-nails; she wont take shit from anyone, least of all her willful daughter, which leads to countless arguments between them.

Atsuko, while protective of her daughter, doesn't believe in coddling her. If Asami does anything life-threatening or reckless, Atsuko will be there to support her through it, but will not punish or scold her for it. She knows, better than most, that a Hero's life is filled with danger, and refuses to shield Asami from what will be her future one day. The only exception to this is the truth about Asami's father, which Atsuko considers her greatest failure.

She never saw much of her daughter when working late nights at her Hero Office, but they bond a lot more after she takes a temporary leave and joins U.A. as a Social Sciences teacher.

Despite the complicated relationship that she and her daughter share, there will never be anything but intense love between the two of them, which pulls them back to each other, no matter how fierce their fights get.

Quirk: Like a long line of women from her family, Atsuko has a powerful Pressure Manipulation Quirk, which, when unchecked, is strong enough to cause earthquakes, tsunamis or even level a city.

Souma Takeshi

Souma: 操 (manipulate) 真 (true)
Takeshi: 武 (warrior)

Charming and handsome, Takeshi is a self-made man who built his criminal empire from the ground up with his own two hands. Incredibly resourceful, he balances his legitimate businesses perfectly with his underground dealings, while the authorities are none the wiser. He owes most of his success to his quirk and his oodles of charisma that can help him talk his way out of a murder.

Even though most of his time is taken up by work, Takeshi makes it a point to be involved in his kids' lives. Kanon, his eldest daughter, works closely with him so she can take over the family business. Takeshi was married once to Kanon's mother, but they separated after Kanon was born. Atsuko is the true love of his life. After she leaves him, he loses interest in falling in love or marrying again, choosing to devote himself to his daughters' well-being. He hopes that one day Atsuko will return and they can be a family again.

While Asami may look exactly like her mother, she's his daughter through and through. Even though most of his and Asami's conversations involve them throwing snark at each other, there's underlying affection there. If Asami was inclined to give up her career as a Hero, Takeshi would name her his heir in a heartbeat. Asami, on the other hand, will not turn him in to the authorities on account of their relationship, but has no interest in joining him in the near future.

Quirk: He can manipulate physical aspects of space within an area of his choosing. He can trap or store people or objects in various pocket dimensions, moving them according to his convenience like a giant chessboard.

Mirai

Mirai: 未来 (future)

Mirai is the most mysterious person in Takeshi's inner circle, considered the boss' shadow, always following closely behind him and whispering in his ear. Their relationship, however, goes much deeper than that. Mirai always thought of her quirk as a curse until she met seven-year-old Takeshi who was in awe of it and called it an amazing gift. That very day, she had a vision that told her this boy was destined for greatness. Ever since, she's been by his side.

Compassionate and nurturing, Mirai is a mom to all of Takeshi's people. She helps them in small, subtle ways from the shadows. She's fiercely dedicated to Takeshi above all -- using her quirk to help him stay one step ahead of his rivals and adversaries, offering advice when he needs it, and even raising his daughter, Kanon, for him. Mirai has no romantic feelings for Takeshi. She loves him, but she is not in love with him. She, more than anyone else, know that aspect of his future fizzled out when Atsuko left.

At first Asami is untrusting of Mirai, but in time realizes she is nothing if not warm and welcoming. They don't see each other very often, but Asami enjoys whatever time she spends with her. However, she understands that Kanon views Mirai as a mother and tries not to intrude on their relationship too much, as she knows Kanon already resents her for "taking away their father".

Quirk: Mirai has a rare quirk that allows occasional glimpses into the near future. They're vague and often metaphorical, and can only be used once every twenty-four hours. Overuse or abuse can result in migraines or even brain tumors.

Next set will probably feature Asami's half-sister, Kanon -- and her grandparents.

Asami has good looking parents. She definitely hit the gene pool lottery

I love how each of your characters have their own story and personality that just branches out and creates a story within a story

Dude I'm such a sucker for "bad" dad being a good father to his kid and them having a good relationship

It's funny you should say that because that's literally how Asami felt on her first day of U.A. She took one look at Shouto and Momo and Katsuki and was like, "...I got shafted in the genetics lottery."

Me too! But I'm especially a sucker for dads who start out terrible and slowly build a relationship with their kid. It started with Ed and Hohenheim in FMA and it's continued up till Shouto and Endeavor. I love slow-burn forgiveness and gradual mutual respect and all that good shit.

Thank you so much!

First, I love the headshots. You manage to put a lot of personality into each of them, especially Takeshi.

But I also like how you put a focus on their stories and motivations in addition to their powers. I particularly like how Atsuko and Takeshi both have these powerful relationships with their kids. Especially for a criminal in a manga/anime setting, that's SUPER rare to see. They're mostly just bad for the sake of being bad and have no redeeming relationships.

Thank you so much! Takeshi is that one character who's design has stayed the same since I first created him, so drawing him comes easily at this point ^^

Aah yes, I'm so glad you noticed what I was aiming for! I'm a sucker for villains with redeeming traits, and even more so for parent-child reconciliation stories, so I had to have Takeshi play a role in his daughter's life, rather than just be some shady evil overlord in the background. It's a lot more fun writing their dynamic like this! ^_^

You're so very welcome! Those characters that stay the same are often the ones that stick out in your memory the most, right? The flagship characters, so to say.

And it really makes a big difference. Now he's interesting and has nuance to him. If he'd just been some crook then what's the point? You did a terrific job!
