Description From my for-vacation-house's big garden. This year, in 2010, the house is going to turn 100.
My father spent all his holidays here being a child, so did my grandfather who lived here with my great-grandparents. During the Occupation, they let the house empty during some months to go in the south of France (the "free France", which was not occupied). When they came back to take some food, they found Nazis in the house, and no more wine in the cellar. Nazis had used the house as a little "headquarters".
One year, my great-granfather planted the christmas tree in the garden, for my grandfather joy. This fir is now 13 meters high.
I love all the history there is into these walls and in this garden..

France.

Great photo to start with, but the history behind it is amazing. It's astounding to hear stories of the war from Europeans, they went through so much hardship...

Yes.. I was watching (yesterday night) a documentary film / reconstitution of the lasts days of Hitler in Berlin. How he killed himself with his wife (he got married two days before that) on April the 30th, and how his follower Joseph Goebbels killed himself the next day with his wife, after having killed their six children . That's strange to think about that, and difficult to make it "real" in my mind.

I know what you mean, it's all very well to understand what happened but everything seems so surreal. It's hard to think that humans are capable of such a thing, and on such a large scale...
