Β 2nd part with Starlight beaming down Twi's shield will come eventually. But woWzers did this take a lot of time and conspicuous trial and error to finish. Right away - yes, she is vastly different from my previous works. But different in a awesome way I hope; really does prove to me the power and potential that digital medias provide. But yeah, this was really fun, and of course tedious to draw lel. To mess around with the endless art tool arsenal while redoing strokes over and over again to try different effects is an experience not possible with traditional stuff. I also finally see how some of my hero-master artists pull off some of their incredible effects on digital platforms; I hoped to reflect similar highlights with Twilight here c:Β So reflection: I got quite carried away with the lighting and shading here as I can tell it could use some adjustments to be 'better' going forward. Also wasn't quite able to get the mane/ tail exactly right and yatta yatta more self critical crap. Overall I learned a whole lot and am very happy to share this one with yall~

This looks really, really cool! The magic is well drawn and dynamic, the facial expression is determined, and the anatomy is very accurate, above all the wing one.
You use color really well, balancing shading and highlighting properly, and the framing you've chosen looks perfect for the situation, a halfbody that's almost cinematographic.

Thank you Lenny graciously for this critically supportive feedback. I spent lots of time trying to nail the exact features you listed and I'm pleasurable relieved to see I pulled through on most of em c:
There was lots of magic and lighting elements to consider which made the shading and highlights rather difficult to implement - I suppose thats my fault for not planning out the scene in full. Regardless it would appear I actually did pretty well and even learned a lot doing this piece so good stuff all in all. As for the cinematography stuff, a lot of my drawings end up aiming to be camera-like angles and scenery which is awesome for paintings and masterpiece-like drawings. But sometimes just a simple pose or theme is all thats needes for a great piece of art; I'll try to ease on the exaggerated/ epic scenes a bit, and get more realism in my work. But anyway, thank you again~

I think it is good looking into everything that can be used for evolving your art, it may not come in handy every time you draw, but some discoveries helped break into very neat visual ideas.
Such as in this one
I am working on the Cayenne in Canterlot Boutique drawing. Thinking about if I should keep it a bit minimalistic or detail it more.

I would definitely say to detail her as much as possible to your liking. I'm assuming like me, you're also trying to 'discover' your exact style and speciality when it comes to art. So going extra deep on certain pieces lets you experience vastly more as well as simply practice technique more. In the future I do possibly see myself toning down the realism and details from Twi here as I'm not sure it's my destined style - I only know that that because I tried it in the first place c:
