Isn't it just? Have you watched the whole series? If so tell me and I will tell you my favourite bits... but the suspense, the clever way you never really see the monster, the pointlessness of it all, the bureaucracy, the kids... it was an incredible concept, really well realised.

Yes I watched the whole thing in one go. I couldn't stop. I usually do other things when the tv is on, but I just sat there like a frozen person. My mouth was probably hanging open the whole 5 hours. It was so honest. They usually do a grand hero bit, and of course there was a grand hero bit, but there was this brutal honesty as well, this realism that I can't even begin to.... it was just amazing.

Yeah. The two bits I loved best were the bit where they tell the civil servant guy that they're going to take his children, and then there are the scenes of him with the gun interspersed with his secretary telling lois what a good man he was, and the bit where they take the child at the end. Because in other tv shows, the good guys would burst in and solve everything before that happens, but this time they just don't.

Oooohh ooh exciting! I'm SO seeing that when it comes out here! My favourite guilty pleasure TV series, Being Human, about a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost who live together in Bristol is back on Saturday. yaaaaaaaaaaay

Ooooo... I will have to check that one out. I've been renting a ton of horror movies lately, which don't scare me and there's a lot of crappy ones (I do other stuff while they're on) but it's fun because sometimes you find a really good one. Or at least one that makes you go WHOA.

I'm looking this up. Hell yes. I think I'm going to have to watch Dr Who as well.

Ohmigod yes! And I love doctor who because there is a believable level of threat and loss but it usually ends up okay, and I like that, because it's comforting but not sickly sugar sweet.

Perfect! I need that. I want to cry, but I don't want to be brokenhearted.

Yeah that's why it's good! I always cry at tv and films though. I watched Narnia last night and cried at that! I'm actually ridiculous when it comes to films.

That one makes me cry too! And I remember the first time I read Harry Potter I cried through half the books.

I've never cried at Harry Potter! But I was reading the magician's nephew and I cried and cried and cried and cried at the bit at the end where his mum gets better. I want magic apples from Narnia for my life! So unfair.

Yeah. I know. Or have you seen The Green Mile? It's so frickin good and I cry every time.

My brother says that. I haven't got round to watching it yet. I always bawl my eyes out at Atonement and Brokeback Mountain though, I think partly because I studied the books in English Lit so I know what all the symbolism means and all the foreshadowing etc and it's just so upsetting! I cry the whole way through every time.

I cried in the music shop the other day because a song came on that reminded me of something really special and everyone was looking at me like woah.

There's this song that I've heard before, but recently I really listened to it and it made me cry like you would not believe. It's so weird. It's like I just realized something and I don't even know what it is.

Anarkhos In reply to sunshinegypsy [2010-01-14 15:49:29 +0000 UTC]

I totally get that. Sometimes i just get this feeling when I hear songs that something really big and momentous has happened and I don't really know what it is, and then I just feel so small and I cry but I don't know why the song made me feel like that.

That's why music's so important. Some people don't get it, for some of them, it's just a good time, but music is all that keeps my soul alive. It's potent stuff.

I know it is, but I've just looked on amazon and there is a book called a certain slant of light which is why I knew the name.

Emily dickinson is cool. If crazy. But that's okay.

There's a certain Slant of light,
Winter Afternoons--
That opresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes--

Heavenly Hurt, it gives us--
We can find no scar,
But internal difference,
Where the meanings are--

None may teach it--Any--
'Tis the Seal Despair--
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the Air--

When it comes, the Landscape listens--
Shadows--hold their breath--
When it goes, 'tis like the Distance
On the look of Death--
