DDs are suggested by the community here, so it's simply a matter of your work bring nominated, and then selected by the Community Volunteer responsible for that particular gallery. The DDs are there to showcase excellence and our appreciation as a community, and are a GREAT way of showcasing the terrific work that gets posted here on dA. The full details on who selects DDs and how to nominate is here:Β help.deviantart.com/18/
Keep posting great work, and keep nominating!Β

Yes My works have been featured in several DD groups, one of my newests in a DD Group which features only the best. That's why I have high hopes. It never happened...
And since I don't know who votes for me... It would simply be so great

Hey Jon, came back from a little holiday to find DA a bit mental! Got aΒ Daily Deviation that as far as I can work out was down to you! Thanks so much for that, that was very kind and a bit flattering if I'm honest. I'll admit I've never taken the time to see what all that DD stuff is about so after this I'll need to have a look, thanks again.Β

I love the way you grayscale your black and white comics. Β It's such a wonderful grainy watercolor texture that invites the eye to fill in details. Β Stylish! Β I gotta learn how to do this 'toning' thing.Β Β

JonathanWyke In reply to chateaugrief [2016-03-20 10:02:04 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! I really just use one Manga Studio thick pencil 'brush' to get the effect, and use it like a paintbrush not a pencil. That's the basic effect, then I made up some simple washes on various papers and have scanned them in and greyscaled them, and use them as background textures.

chateaugrief In reply to JonathanWyke [2016-03-21 02:37:43 +0000 UTC]
So it's a textured 'brush' that's painted under the lineart? Β The effect is very nice. Β I had to look twice to see that they weren't done traditionally....but that clean crisp digital look is still there. Β It's a really sharp feel. Β I'll be keeping an eye out for more!Β

Lots of layers too, to build up texture and maintain control.

Layers layers everywhere. Β Hundreds. Β Remembering what I have on each, even under strict naming conventions and grouping, is quite a challenge! Β I guess that's the 'maintain control' bit. Β
